Watch TV shows, movies, and videos

You can use the Movies & TV app to watch home videos on your Surface, and you can rent or buy TV shows and movies from the Windows Store.

Video app on Surface

You can buy or rent movies and TV shows from the Windows Store using the Movies & TV app. The app also features Instant-on streaming in HD, so you don’t have to wait for anything to download. Just start watching.

Play videos from your video library

Here's how to play videos from your video library:

Step 1: Go to Start Windows logo, and select All apps > Movies & TV.
If you’re prompted, sign in with your Microsoft account.
Step 2: Select Menu  Menu icon > Videos.
Step 3: Choose the video you want to play.

Add videos to your Videos library

Videos in your Videos library appear in the Movies & TV app. For help copying videos to your Videos library, see Move files to your Surface.

Browse, buy, and rent movies and TV shows

Use the Movies & TV app to buy or rent the latest movies or buy TV shows, where available, directly from Windows Store. With Instant-on streaming in HD, you don't have to wait for them to download. Just start watching.

  • Syncing or sending data across a mobile broadband connection could result in extra charges. To learn more, see Manage your mobile broadband data usage.
  • Some movies and TV shows in the Windows Store are not available in all countries or regions. If you’re having trouble finding a movie or TV show in the Store or if you think that your region in the Store is wrong, see Change your region for Windows Store.

Here's how to buy or rent movies or TV shows:

Step 1: Go to Start Windows logo, and select All apps > Store.
Step 2: In the Store, select Movies & TV.
Step 3: Scroll to see movie and TV choices, browse the categories, or search for a specific movie or TV show.
Step 4: Choose your movie or show, select it to buy or rent, and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • Videos that you buy or rent from the Windows Store are charged to the payment option on your Microsoft account. To see info about your account, from the Movies & TV app select Settings Settings icon > View account.
  • You can stream your videos to your TV by using Xbox SmartGlass.
