Surface Pen is the handy sidekick for your Surface. Take notes, draw, and sign documents on the screen, just like on paper.

A drawing of the Surface pen with features labeled with numbers to match the following list
  1. Top button
  2. LED light
  3. Cap
  4. Clip
  5. Magnet
  6. Right-click button
  7. Tip

When you're not using the pen, just use the magnet to stick it to the left side of the screen until you need it again.

Pair your pen

First, you’ll need to pair the Surface Pen with your Surface so they can talk to each other.

  1. Press and hold the top button of the pen for a few seconds until you see a white light on the flat side of the pen.
  2. Select the Start Windows logo button, and then select Settings>Devices> Bluetooth.
  3. In the Manage Bluetooth devices list, select Surface Pen, and then select Pair.

Use Windows Ink

The Windows Ink Workspace is the place for everything you do with your pen.

Select the pen icon to open the workspace. Jot down a reminder in Sticky Notes, draw a picture in Sketchpad, or doodle on a webpage, picture, or app using Screen sketch.

If you have Microsoft Office apps installed on your Surface, make sure to try out the Surface Pen in OneNote.
