Windows Media Player Error Message Help

You've encountered error message C00D1187 while using Windows Media Player. The following information might help you troubleshoot the issue.

Cannot convert file

Prior to synchronizing a file to a portable device, Windows Media Player might need to convert the file from one format or bit rate to a different format or bit rate. Whether the Player will need to convert the file depends upon the playback capabilities of your portable device and how much free space the device has.

You might have encountered this error because there is not enough storage space on your computer for the Player to convert the file that you are trying to sync.

To resolve this issue, do one or more of the following:

  • Delete unwanted files from your hard disk. You can do this several ways. For example, in Windows, you can empty the Recycle Bin or use the Disk Cleanup Wizard.

  • Increase the space available to convert files. Click the arrow below the Sync tab, and then click More Options. Click the Devices tab, and then click Advanced. In the Amount of disk space to use box, type a larger number.

  • Delete previously converted files. Click the arrow below the Sync tab, and then click More Options. Click the Devices tab, click Advanced, and then click Delete Files.

    Note that this only deletes any temporary (converted) files. It does not delete any original files.

  • Use a different storage location to convert files (such as a different hard disk that has more free space). Click the arrow below the Sync tab, and then click More Options. Click the Devices tab, and then click Advanced. Click Change, and then specify the new location.
