Windows 7 Service Pack 1 is an update that does the following:
- Helps keep PCs supported.
- Provides ongoing improvement to the operating system, by including previous updates delivered over Windows Update as well as continuing incremental updates to the Windows 7 platform based on customer and partner feedback.
- Makes it easy for organizations to deploy a single set of updates.
Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 includes the following:
- RemoteFX and Dynamic Memory.
- Provides customers with the ability to take advantage of enhanced server and desktop virtualization.
Microsoft believes that virtualization is a stepping stone to cloud computing. Microsoft provides all of the necessary elements including fully integrated server, virtualization, and management solutions for customers and partners to deploy private clouds today.

Note There are no build-to-build upgrades for the SP1 beta, Release Candidate (RC), or Release to Manufacturing (RTM). If you have installed the beta or RC of SP1, you must uninstall it first through the Control Panel and then install the RTM.
Microsoft provides end-user downgrade rights for Windows 7 Professional and Windows 7 Ultimate through system builders and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). Windows 7 end-user downgrade rights will be available through the sales lifecycle of Windows 7, which is up to two years after the launch date of a new version.
