Microsoft released an optional supplement for Office 2010 to address an Office Help System access issue for some double-byte character set users. Details follow.
- Users who have extended ASCII or DBCS (double-byte character set) in their Windows login usernames have problems using Microsoft Office 2010 offline Help system for client applications.
- Office 2010 Help has two modes of operation: offline and connected to office.com. When in the offline mode, users are not able to view category links or results of free text searches in offline help.
- Any user who has the previously mentioned characters in their logon name or who uses a Windows XP operating system language in which the Temporary Internet Files folder name has any of the previously mentioned characters is affected by this issue when using offline help.
- For users running Office 2010 in Greek language on Windows 7/Windows Server 2008 R2, offline search for words ending with "final lowercase Sigma" letter "ς" (U+03C2) will fail to return results. This is not an issue when Help is set to connect to Office.com.
- This optional supplement has been released via the MS OEM Online (MOO) Software Order Center.

Language Interface Packs (LIPs) are available to download. Because the entire user interface is not translated, LIPs require at least one parent language. This means that the parts of the user interface that are not translated into the LIP language are displayed in the parent language.
When you download a LIP:
- You get the parent language requirements for that language.
- The parent language pack must be installed before the LIP can be installed.
- You can install more than one LIP, so each user of the computer can display the user interface a different language.
Note: Only these LIPs are available for system builders to download. Other LIPs are available directly for end users to purchase and download.
