Scottie earns a living as a bartender while pursuing an acting career, but can't seem to move out of Austin to pursue opportunities because he claims he's in love. However, when his girlfriend breaks up with him, he realizes his love life may not be all that it's cracked up to be. His best friend Arlo does what he can to cheer him up, but soon enough, Scottie finds himself in cahoots with the woman of his dreams, Ebby. She refuses to let him lag behind on the path to success: either he makes something of himself or she walks. Then, a big break: Moses Duvall, a legendary director, is casting for his next big movie right in Austin. The only problem is Scottie doesn't seem to be the right fit for any of the remaining unknown roles. His love life with Ebby, however, flourishes until Alex, Ebby's wild, uninhibited twin sister, stops by, and Scottie's tasked to make her feel at home. With some help from Arlo, Scottie begins plotting how he can convince Moses that he is the right mentally challenged lead he needs for the movie. In the meantime, he just can't seem to escape Alex. Events culminate on the day of his audition with Moses, but when the plan falls apart, a rift forms between Scottie and Arlo. With no time to recuperate, Scottie's off yet again accompanying Alex, as rising temptations threaten his relationship with Ebby. Though he resists temptation, the very fact that he came so close scared him, and he realizes he's not ready to commit to a lifelong relationship with Ebby or deserves to pursue his career goals. After his agent pulls him out of a depression, Scottie sets out to fix his life. His visits to Moses and Arlo mend bridges, and he finally gets the kick he needs to head out of Austin. He takes one last shot at Ebby, and though she turns down his offer to go to New Orleans with him, their relationship is patched back together. Though it will be a rough road again, at least there’s hope.
