This article includes in-depth analysis of the PLATINUM targeted activity group, including a case study of a recent attack. Targeted activity groups are skilled at covering their tracks and evading detection, and it can be very difficult to definitively associate an activity group with a specific nation-state or group of individuals. Like many such groups, PLATINUM seeks to steal sensitive intellectual property related to government interests, but its range of preferred targets is consistently limited to specific governmental organizations, defense institutes, intelligence agencies, diplomatic institutions, and telecommunication providers in South and Southeast Asia.
