Game Design Comp - Become the ultimate superhero

Who says saving the world can't be fun? First of all, it's thrilling to make a difference. And with the power of gaming, people can have fun while fighting global issues. Game Design gives you the opportunity to learn the art of video game design – a perfect chance to start taking steps toward a career in game development. Your game could be multilevel or single player, 3-D or 2-D, or even played on a mobile device. The structure of the game is entirely up to you – just remember to highlight how gaming technology can make a difference.

Your game submission can be based on either

  1. Game Design: Xbox/Windows
  2. Game Design: Phone

Round 1 Submission Requirements:

Round 1 Submission Deadline: 14 February 2012

For Round 1, all teams competing must create and submit a Game Design storyboard or Game Summary Document detailing your games unique gameplay features and how it aligns to the Imagine Cup 2012 Theme, to the Imagine Cup Website.

Your game submission can be based on either:

  1. Game Design: Xbox/Windows
  2. Game Design: Phone

Round 2 Submission Requirements:

Round 2 Submission Deadline: 13 March 2012

For Round 2, you or your team must submit* the items listed below. It is recommended that your team refer to the judge’s feedback received between rounds and any learning from the Imagine Cup Game Design Forums to update your submission – we would like to see that you have continues to develop and refine your game.

  1. One Game Design Storyboard or One Game Summary Document
  2. Game Play Instructions
  3. One Game Video
  4. One Playable Game

*The maximum file size for the Round 2 submission is 500MB.

The top 100 teams from Round 2 will proceed to the Worldwide Finals Qualifying Round.


Round 3 Submission Requirements:

Round 3 Submission Deadline: 3 May 2012

For Round 3, you or your team must submit*:

  1. One Game Design Storyboard or One Game Summary Document
  2. Game Play Instructions
  3. One Game Video
  4. One Playable Game
  5. Three Game Screenshots
  6. One Game Trailer

*The maximum file size for the Round 3 submission is 550MB


The Aussie Finals

The top three in each category will be chosen as the Aussie Comp winners for Game Design. Winners will be subject to US judging before they can proceed to the Global Finals. Judging takes place from 13 April to 3 May 2012.

The top 10 Global Finalists will be selected to compete at the Worldwide Finals in July!
