Here’s a quick overview of Surface 2 features.

The 10.6” touchscreen, with its 16:9 aspect ratio and Full HD display (1080p resolution) is great for watching HD films, browsing the web and using Office apps. Like a smartphone, you can browse the web or your email using your fingers. For more info, see Surface touchscreen and Touch: tap, swipe and beyond.
Typing Covers
Add a unique keyboard that doubles as a protective cover (Typing Covers sold separately). This way you’ll always have a keyboard with you. See Accessories for info on the full range of accessories available for your Surface.
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
Surface supports standard Wi-Fi protocols (802.11a/b/g/n) and Bluetooth® 4.0. This means that you can connect to a wireless network and use Bluetooth® devices such as mice, printers and headsets with Surface. For info on Surface mobile broadband 4G antennas, see Surface 2 specifications.
Two cameras – front and back
Two cameras that you can use for video calls, recording videos and taking pictures. The front-facing camera is 3.5 megapixels and the rear-facing camera is 5.0 megapixels. The cameras record video in 1080p HD, with a 16:9 aspect ratio (widescreen).
Dual microphones
Built-in microphones come in handy when recording videos and calling people.
Surface 2 features back
Flip out the dual-angle kickstand when you want to be productive, or when you want to kick back and have some fun. One position is ideal for typing at a desk and another for typing on your lap.
Stereo speakers, headset jack, and volume
Listen to music, radio, podcasts, and audio books using apps from the Windows Store or from websites.
SIM card tray

Some Surface 2 models - Surface 2 (AT&T 4G LTE) and Surface 2 (4G) – have built-in mobile broadband capability, which you can use to connect to the Internet when a Wi-Fi network isn’t available. See Set up your Surface 2: mobile broadband (4G) for more info.

  • Windows RT 8.1
    Surface 2 comes pre-installed with Windows RT 8.1— a Windows-based operating system that's optimised for thin and light PCs. Windows RT 8.1 only runs built-in apps or apps that you download from the Windows Store. For more info, see Windows RT 8.1: FAQ.
  • Microsoft Office 2013 RT
    Microsoft Office 2013 RT is pre-installed—Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and OneNote apps that are optimised for tablets. For more info, see Microsoft Office 2013 RT.
  • Apps
    Surface 2 comes with many built-in apps—check out the tiles for them on your Start screen. And you can install more from the Windows Store. For info on installing apps, see Install and uninstall apps on Surface RT or Surface 2.
In addition to the internal storage included with Surface 2, there are a few additional storage options.
