Project Plan 5 is our new online project portfolio management service delivered through Microsoft 365. Project Server Subscription Edition is our on-premises project portfolio management product.

Project Server runs as a service app under SharePoint Server. It is included as part of the SharePoint Server Subscription Edition installation, though it is licensed separately.

Project Server Subscription Edition cannot coexist with previous versions of Project Server. More information about upgrade and migration planning are available on TechNet.
