Microsoft is empowering government officials, employees, and civil servants with training in digital productivity, generative AI, and cybersecurity, enabling them to integrate AI and productivity tools into their workflows. This enhances efficiency, transparency, and improves citizen services, ultimately impacting policymaking, administration, and governance.

In FY24, Microsoft skilled 1.9 million government officials, employees, and civil servants, with 50,000 government officials across various departments benefiting from this initiative, strengthening their ability to deliver impactful citizen services and streamline governance in both urban and rural areas

India's vocational education system, which trains over 80% of youth, faces a significant AI skills gap, limiting access to industry job opportunities. To bridge this gap, Microsoft has partnered with the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and the Directorate General of Training (DGT) to provide experiential training on digital productivity and AI to students in ITIs and NSTIs, especially from remote and rural areas.

This initiative integrates AI fluency into government vocational education institutions, training youth, particularly women, in digital productivity, employability skills, and AI fluency, including hands-on Gen AI projects.

Shiksha Copilot is a teacher companion powered by Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service built in collaboration with Shikshana Foundation. This tool is assisting 1000 educators in creating engaging and personalized lesson plans in local languages for Mathematics, Science, Social Science, and English, thereby enhancing the educational experience for 30,000 children across 750 government schools in Karnataka. It improves classroom engagement within government schools by enabling teachers to generate comprehensive lesson plans in approximately 10 minutes, allowing them to allocate more time directly interacting with students. Microsoft is scaling this solution to reach 8,000 more teachers in Karnataka and Telangana in 2025.

Microsoft is partnering with Digital Green to equip more than 25,000 small-scale farmers (60% women) across Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh with relevant, contextualized, actionable, climate-smart, and gender-responsive AI-enabled agricultural advisories through Farmer.Chat, an AI-enabled digital assistant to meet the evolving needs and ambitions of small-scale farmers. Microsoft will also train an additional 20,000 government extension workers and farmer producer organizations (FPOs) to make available Farmer.Chat, for improved farm productivity, climate resilience, and livelihoods, aiming for a 15% increase in household incomes of participating farmers. Farmer.Chat is available as a mobile application in Hindi, Odiya, Kannada and Telugu and uses a combination of foundational AI and machine learning models, as well as language processing and translation technologies to source citations, including local language training videos.

DLearners is the only platform in India for the development processes of children with Specific Learning Disability (SLD). Developed by Blink Foundation with the support from Microsoft, it helps with early identification, awareness, enhancing parental empathy, improving sensitivity, and thereby providing these children with the right intervention using an Azure based AI platform, in local languages, playing the role of a technical expert in academic institutions.

Microsoft is deploying an intervention using DLearners in 1500+ government schools, creating awareness among 2000+ teachers/parents and building their capacity for sustained development of 50K children. This platform is equipped with built-in awareness videos, scientifically validated, screening questions and content that is easily understandable and guides parents/teachers with the best remediation opportunities, based on the child's need

Microsoft is partnering with World Wildlife Fund for Nature in India (WWF India), to build Gen AI forest fire prediction frameworks leveraging machine learning for delineating the probable areas of forest fire in three different landscapes, namely Kanchenzonga, Terai-Arc, and Western Ghats across India.

This AI model in collaboration with 5 state government forest departments, leverages high-resolution satellite data with historic trends, employing a sophisticated data structure called a ‘space-time cube’ to calculate fire danger and risk, developing a digital twin of the landscape and finally creating the spatiotemporal patterns of the distribution of forest fires.

This has allowed 250 forest experts and 500 government officials to predict fire outbreaks with newfound accuracy and provides invaluable insights on forest fire management. This solution also assesses the effectiveness of existing fire management policies, pinpoint areas that are most at risk, and has raised awareness among 1500 members in vulnerable communities. It has also highlighted the need for equipping forest officials with adequate resources.
