Visual Studio Support Log Collection Script

Use this script to collect logs if instructed by support

    Microsoft staff may instruct you to collect Visual Studio logs to assist with troubleshooting your issue. Administrator rights are required to run this script.
  • Supported Operating Systems

    Windows 10, Windows 8

    Windows 8 or above, Administrator rights
  • 1. Close all running instances of Visual Studio.
    2. Download the file CollectVSLogs.zip
    3. Extract the file collectvslogs.bat
    4. Right click the file collectvslogs.bat
    5. Click on Run as Administrator
    6. Click Yes when you see the warning: Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?
    7. When the command prompt launches verify that Visual Studio is closed, then press the space bar to start the script
    Note: Make sure the command prompt windows is selected before pressing the space bar or the script will not start.
    8. Visual Studio will launch automatically
    9. Reproduce the issue in Visual Studio
    10. Exit Visual Studio once you reproduce the issue
    11. The script will then collect all the required logs and inform you where they are located
    12. Compress all of these files into one zip file and send it to your Microsoft representative
