Create a book reading schedule with AI
Finding time to sit down with a good book, let alone accomplishing your reading goals, is challenging. Learn how to create a reading schedule that’s worth sticking to with AI.
Set reading goals
Before making a reading schedule, think about your goals. If you want to read a certain number of books each month or finally finish your copy of Infinite Jest, it’s good to have a plan. Maybe you want to become a faster reader and need a little push. Turn to generative AI to narrow down your goals. Try prompts like these to get started:
- I want to learn how to read faster. Help me determine how quickly I read and then develop a plan to increase my speed. Include suggestions of books and reading exercises.
- I like to read comic books and fantasy, but I want to read more nonfiction. What books should I be reading to get into this genre that align with my interests?
- I want to read at least two books a month. Determine if this is doable based on my current reading speed and the list of books I’d like to read [list]. Estimate how long it will take me to read each book.
Make a reading schedule with AI
AI schedules and organizes all sorts of things (Date night! A bake sale!), so why not use it to carve out time to read? You might be working your way through a new series or trying to finish your summer reading. Maybe you just need a little help getting organized because you love reading but never find the time for it.
AI breaks down your reading list so that it feels more manageable. It also creates a daily schedule with time allotted for curling up with a good book. If you’re a more ambitious reader, or a skilled multitasker, you might even ask for suggestions on how to read multiple books at the same time.
If finding time is your primary concern, share enough relevant information about your time-consuming daily activities, and AI makes a reading schedule that fits into your life. If you’d like your results to be presented in a certain way, like in a table or chart, make sure to include that in your prompt. For example, ask AI to, “Create a reading schedule and present it in a table format.”
Create a reading list
Once you’ve made time to read, choosing your first book is the next challenge. There are millions and millions of books available. You may be tempted to return to something you’ve already read, but this is an excellent time to get AI recommendations. Think of your favorite books and genres, then turn them into a prompt and generate a reading list with AI.
Use these example prompts to generate book recommendations:
- I want to read more classic literature. Recommend 20 books that everyone should read.
- Recommend ten well-reviewed novels that feature complex female friendships set in the present day.
- My favorite author is Chuck Palahniuk. Recommend other authors or books with a similar storytelling style.
- I’m interested in language. Make a list of books discussing the English language and how the meaning of certain words has changed over time. These books should have a conversational tone and not be overly scholarly.
