Bei Liu is a Senior Researcher in the Visual Computing Group at Microsoft Research Asia, located in Beijing. She also serves as a Guest Associate Professor at Nagoya University in Japan. Before joining Microsoft, she earned her Ph.D. and Master’s degrees from Kyoto University, Japan, under the guidance of Professors Katsumi Tanaka, Masatoshi Yoshikawa, and Makoto P. Kato. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Nanjing University, China.
Dr. Liu’s research focuses on multi-modality learning, Embodied AI, and human-computer interaction. Currently, her research is centered on agentic AI, with a particular focus on enhancing the capabilities of large language models (LLMs) to function as effective agents in understanding, reasoning, and decision-making tasks. She has been honored with several awards, including the ACM MM 2018 Best Paper, TMM 2020 Outstanding Reviewer, 2022 China Multimedia Company Innovation Technology Award, ACM MMAsia 2024 Best Student Paper Runner-Up, and MMM 2025 Best Paper.
