Microsoft Office 365 subscribers can translate Word documents into any of our supported languages using Word Translator, an intelligent service made available through the cloud. Whether you want to translate a selection of words within a document, or translate the entire document, Word Translator makes text translation easy with this built-in Office 365 feature. You can also enjoy peace of mind knowing that the Microsoft Translator API translates through a secured SSL connection.

How it works

Learn how to translate in O365 below. If you are using Office for PC, please view this how to video.

Translate selected text: Select words and phrases for translation, and simply right-click to see your translation in the Translator pane.

Translate entire documents: Create a translated copy of documents with links intact by clicking the Review tab, and the Translate button.

Word Online

Microsoft Word Online lets you read and edit Word and PDF documents stored in the Microsoft cloud: OneDrive, OneDrive for Business, or SharePoint Online. You can access these documents anytime, anywhere, on all of your internet-connected devices. Using the Translator add-in for Word, you can translate selected text into any of the Microsoft Translator supported languages through a secure SSL connection.

Document Translator

Microsoft Document Translator is an open source sample app that allows you to translate one or more Word, PDF, PowerPoint, plain text or Excel documents quickly and easily. Documents can be translated individually or in batches, with the original formatting intact, into any of the more than 60+ languages supported by Microsoft Translator.

Document Translator also allows you to use customized translation systems built with Custom Translator that better understand the terminology used in your own business and industry. Once you have built your customized translation system model, you can use them to translate your documents by adding your Category ID in the settings menu. Learn more about Custom Translator.

To use Document Translator, you need a Microsoft Translator Text API subscription. You can translates up to 2 million characters (roughly 650 pages) per month at no cost by subscribing to the free Microsoft Translator Text API free subscription tier. For higher monthly volumes you can upgrade to a paid subscription.

To get started with Document Translator:

  1. Download the latest release of Document Translator on GitHub
  2. Sign up for a subscription to the Microsoft Translator Text API
  3. Enter your subscription key in the Settings menu
  4. Translate your documents
