DisplayPort will not work on external monitors

Right out of the box, connected miniDP to Displayport inputs on two brand new ASUS monitors and while the surface pro 4 sees the two monitors, it will not display on them. Connect the monitors directly to the surface pro 4 and they both work as an extended single display. So, the dock just doesnt work. Terrible product.

Works as advertised

I have two of these... one at home and one at the office. It connects perfectly to by SP4 and my Surface Book. My only complaint is the cost... otherwise it does exactly what I want it to do.

Achilles Heal

Works Perfectly - Now. Highly recommended

Bought this to go along with my Surface Pro 4 just over a year ago. I'll admit, it was brutal at first. But there has been soft updates to both the dock (when connected during Windows Updates) as well as to the Surface Pro 4 (specifically the display drivers) that have resolved all my issues. Now, over the last six month, it has worked flawlessly - especially true if you can connect mini-displayport cables to DisplayPort on the monitor. I have two monitors connected this way and they work perfectly when I dock. I initially tried mini-DisplayPort to HDMI cables to my monitors, but they were slow to sync and need to be special cables to handle the 'active' conversion between the two display technologies (i.e. DisplayPort to HDMI). In general, it's a great addition to my Surface Pro 4. One connector to the Surface Pro and I've got my keyboard, mouse, two monitors, and USB connector to my phone all enabled. I still have two leftover USB ports, audio jack, and Ethernet jack on the dock that I haven't used. Pricey, but worth the convenience and connectivity options opened up!

More works needs to be done

I bought this device 3 months ago and got it replaced a week ago. The device is not compatible with Surface Pro 4 sleep mode. Where the SP4 wakes-up the Surface dock and anything connected to it will not wake up most of the time.

Nice and useful, however...

I got this dock for my Surface Pro 3 because I take it daily with me so I can do stuff on the train when commuting to work, so connecting/disconnecting several cables twice a day is a bit of a pain in the back (power, USB, display, audio, morning and night), I needed something simple and specially not wearing them out or damaging them. Configuration: Surface Pro 3, ASUS PB278Q monitor (DisplayPort, HDMI, DVI, VGA), keyboard, mouse, web cam, ethernet, additional USB 3.0 hub, external HDD and DVD R/W, and some other common devices. Pros: 1) Dock size is good enough for all the ports it has. 2) Easy to connect to the Tablet. 3) Was able to use the Tablet screen plus two external monitors (3 screens total). 4) Tested all ports even Ethernet, USB, etc and all worked for me as expected. 5) High video resolution possible using DisplayPort cable connected to tablet or dock. Cons: 1) Dock is heavier for the size and features it has and power adapter looks a bit too big. This might be an issue if you need to carry them often while working mobile. 2) Video resolution with HDMI adapter connected to tablet is 2560x1440, but connected to dock is 1920x1080 max. Others: 1) I read many reviews with issues about the monitor not turning on after Tablet being sleeping or hibernated. I did not find any of those issues. 2) I also read many more reviews with issues when using DisplayPort, such as not stable images, losing video, flickering, etc. I also got this issue for hours, looked if I needed another adapter, considered returning the dock, etc. After hours updating dock firmware, system software and checking setups, I found the screen refresh rate for the monitor was at 59hz, so I changed to 60hz and I never experienced those issues again.

Why so flakey?

I was hoping the poor reviews for this dock were just exaggerated but this thing is truly disappointing. My monitors 'work' with the dock provided that the Surface never goes to sleep. Once the Surface goes to sleep I'm lucky if the monitors wake up half the time, usually they don't I'm left needing to reboot the Surface before the dock works with them again.

DEEP NNN

The Cat's Meow!

Pro: I finally got around to using this Dock as more than a charger for my Surface Pro 3 i5 256GB. It works great! Plugged in: Asus 24 in 1080p Monitor with DisplayPort to HDMI adapter. 2 x External 2TB USB 3 HD 1 x External 1TB USB 3 HD 1 x External USB 2 DVD burner Ethernet 1Gb wired. Bluetooth Keyboard and Mouse All devices work perfectly. Cons: Make sure Docking cable is fully connected. External HD remain spun up after Surface is disconnected from Dock. Mitigation requires Dock being powered down.
