Canadian Leadership Team

As the National Security Officer for Microsoft Canada, John leads the company’s Canadian security strategy to build trust in Microsoft technology through security partnerships, threat‑intelligence sharing, and engagement with governments and Canadian stakeholders to strengthen the cybersecurity ecosystem.

John joined Microsoft in 2021, holding security roles across Threat Intelligence, Security Research, and Security Customer Success. Prior to Microsoft, he spent 16 years at the Communications Security Establishment and the Canadian Digital Service, supporting Canada through critical security and public health events. He has built and operated systems to strengthen the Government of Canada’s cyber defence, working closely with foreign governments, academia, and industry.

John holds a Bachelor of Computer Science degree from the University of New Brunswick.

John resides in Ottawa, Ontario with his wife and three children. Outside of work, he enjoys building, growing, and fixing things as a way to stay grounded with nature and his community.
