Gojob augments recruiters with Azure OpenAI Service

Specializing in temporary work recruitment, Gojob is banking on generative AI to transform the daily work of its recruiters and speed up the jobseeker hiring process.

In this context, the company has developed Aglae, a virtual assistant based on Azure OpenAI Service. Aglae is tasked with managing part of the recruitment process via text message.

To date, the tool pre-qualifies a candidate within 15 minutes, enabling recruiters to achieve record employment placement rates.

Gojob

Gojob is a 100% digital employment agency, which was created in 2015 out of the conviction that access to employment is a vector of human dignity and social inclusion. Since then, the scaleup's 200 employees, based in France and in the United States, have turned this conviction into a mission: that of putting as many people as possible on the job market thanks to the flexibility of temporary employment contracts... and digital technology.

Gojob indeed used the power of new technologies to revolutionize access to employment thanks to Aglae, a virtual assistant transforming the daily lives of recruiters. Founder Pascal Lorne and Product Manager Thibaut Watrigant are behind this cutting-edge innovation, which they told us all about.

Automation for better recruitment

While the company manages to place up to 10,000 temporary workers a month on the job market, the amount of work behind the scenes is huge. "A recruiter has to contact between 50 and 80 candidates to fill a single vacancy,"Ā Pascal Lorne explains. This time-consuming operating mode does not suit the scaleup, which is looking for a technology to automate low value-added tasks, so that its teams can concentrate more on human interaction with candidates.Ā 

When generative AI burst onto the digital scene, it then became the obvious way to address these issues. This was the beginning of Aglae.

To bring the project to fruition, Gojob chose Microsoft and Azure AI: "Azure OpenAI Service is the best generative AI solution on the market today. It also offers an environment which is consistent with our needs in terms of data sovereignty, confidentiality, and security," Pascal Lorne adds.

Working with a high-performance technical foundation, Aglae instantly searches for the best candidates out of 2 million profiles. It pre-qualifies candidates as soon as an offer is published, using natural language discussions generated by generative AI. The tool is also able to answer questions from selected profiles, and redirect them if their profile doesn't match. "Our approach is based on Large Language Models and a number of prompts that enable us to generate meaningful exchanges," Thibaut WatrigantĀ analyzes, adding that, from now on, the recruiter only intervenes at the end of the process, once the relevant profiles have been selected.Ā 

But the application is not just another assistant. "We didn't want a black box AI model,"Ā Thibaut Watrigant warns, "which is why we developed a product that allows each recruiter to have his or her own version of Aglae." This personalization approach goes so deep that if a recruiter leaves the company, so does the assistant attached to him or her.

15 minutes to prequalify candidates

1.5 million exchanges have taken place since the virtual assistant went live, and it takes Aglae no more than 15 minutes to close a conversation and pre-qualify the best candidate, compared with 30 days in classic employment agencies, and an average of five days for other temporary work agencies.

As a result, ā€œrecruiters call less than two candidates to place one in the job,ā€Ā Thibaut Watrigant enthuses. Their placement rate has therefore risen from 60% to 95%, and recruiters save precious time which they can invest in their relationship with candidates and in the co-construction of the tool, in which they play an active part. The solution has also won over jobseekers, praising its responsiveness, the relevance of its interactions, and the company's ability to offer a system that combines a human touch with new technologies.Ā 

Developing ethical and responsible AI

While this adventure is off to a promising start, the Gojob teams have no intention of using AI to ā€œbe productive at all costs,ā€ preferring an ethical approach. ā€œWe work to help real people,ā€Ā Thibaut Watrigant reminds us. ā€œWe must use AI in a responsible way, especially as we are ahead of the game on these subjects and are keen to set an example.ā€Ā 

This ethical approach is implemented with text message conversation checks that are carried out afterwards by employees. This supervision empowers each of the parties involved in the recruitment process, and effectively combats the emergence of bias or discriminatory reactions emanating from AI. The virtual assistant is also trained to determine what it can and cannot do. ā€œAI shouldnā€™t have all the answers. It has therefore been set up to hand over to a human when necessary."

Moving towards ever more efficient recruitment methods, beyond the company's borders

The tool has now been fully adopted by the teams, and should be enriched with new functionalities in the coming months. The goal is to be ever more relevant when supporting jobseekers. ā€œThrough Aglae, we want to give candidates the means to maximize their chances of being recruited, either by directing them to jobs that better match their profile, or by suggesting suitable training programs.ā€

At the same time, the scaleup is rolling out its SaaS solution to other major players in the employment sector, increasing the number of "augmented recruiters" from around 30 to no less than 1,000.
