mci group was quick to realize that using transformative technologies such as generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) would be crucial to actively enhance its capabilities. For this reason, it redoubled its already strong emphasis on innovative approaches and tools: The company has long used a variety of Microsoft solutions ā€“ such asĀ Microsoft 365Ā (includingĀ Teams andĀ SharePoint) andĀ Microsoft Azure. Today, mci group operates entirely in the cloud.Ā

When it introducedĀ Microsoft 365 Copilot, the group became part of the ā€œEarly Adopter Programā€ as a logical next step. ā€œGenerative AI was and is a key factor, not only to enhance our operational capabilities, but also to reinforce our commitment to leveraging technology and delivering exceptional value and results for our customers,ā€ says Edouard Duverger, CIO of mci group. ā€œMaking AI a central topic across mci group in the shape of Microsoft 365 Copilot was therefore the obvious thing to do.ā€ Under the terms of the Early Adopter Program, 300 Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses were handed out to particularly tech-savvy users who were designated as ā€œAI championsā€. The aim was to familiarize them with the various functions of Microsoft 365 Copilot so that they could use effective prompting techniques to develop potential use cases. In addition, dialogue sessions enabled them to explore the potential of Microsoft 365 Copilot with an even sharper focus.

Improving AI deployment through gamification

The AI championsā€™ piloting effortsā€”and close collaboration with the companyā€™s Learning and Development departmentā€”gave the groupā€™s IT team valuable insights that the company was able to build on. Online courses and videos were developed from the training sessions and have now become mandatory for all users of Microsoft 365 Copilot throughout the group. To create additional incentives, mci group made Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses available to all teams that completed the training, drafted an AI transformation plan, and worked specifically on AI implementation. This incentive boosted user adoption, and the group discovered that even only a 1% increase in productivity caused by using Microsoft 365 Copilot could result in an annual savings potential of USD2 million. Thanks to the use of ā€œPrompt Buddyā€ with every AI initiative, these prompts are now collected in a central library. They can then be incorporated in peopleā€™s day-to-day work to further improve the use of Microsoft 365 Copilot across a wider group of users globally. Going forward, mci group believes that this commitment to using the right prompting will become increasingly important to deliver personalized, fast, and high-quality outcomes that satisfy the demanding expectations of customers. ā€œWe are convinced that Microsoft 365 Copilot is exactly that for us; it extends our capabilities and enhances our expertise,ā€ Duverger concludes. ā€œWe want to take our employees to an even higher level with AI and provide them with the best possible support.ā€

An AI strategy with a vision: Merging data competence with joint innovation

mci group is seeking to harness joint meetings, additional use cases, and hackathons to drive wider Copilot adoption. Employees and customers alike thus gain further benefits from this powerful tool. In the longer term, a data strategy and the further development of data analytics expertise within the company are also planned. Right now, the group plans to deploy a total of 1,600 Microsoft 365 Copilot licenses in March 2025ā€”before rolling it out to all employees over the course of the coming year. This move will make the use of AI an even more integral component of the global company strategy. In addition to activities surrounding Microsoft 365 Copilot, the group is intensifying its wider strategic partnership with Microsoft. Development teams are working with Copilot Studio and exploring new use cases for Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service technologies. This collaboration goes beyond a traditional vendor relationship and underlines the group's role as an advocate for AI-based solutions. Duverger has no doubts: ā€œBy exploring unconventional paths with Microsoft by our side and constantly discovering new use cases together with our employees, we are increasing our efficiency and quality and thus delivering benefits to our customers, tooā€”a genuine win-win situation!ā€
