Pangaea Data is closing care gaps with help from the Microsoft marketplace

To support its goal of closing critical care gaps that cause many patients to be untreated and under-treated, Pangaea Data needed to significantly scale its business to reach more healthcare and pharmaceutical customers.

Pangaea decided to make the Microsoft marketplace a core part of its go-to-market strategy, allowing Pangaea customers to directly purchase their platform through the marketplace while satisfying their existing MACC commitments.

By introducing their platform on the Microsoft marketplace, Pangaea dramatically simplified deployment for healthcare and pharmaceutical customers, unlocking new visibility and revenue potential for Pangaea.

PANGAEA DATA

On average, a clinician gets a scant 10 minutes to gather detailed information about health history, symptoms, exams, and test results when meeting with a patient It's a race against time, where crucial facts can be easily missed.

This all-too-common scenario creates care gaps in which many patients are left undiagnosed, misdiagnosed, miscoded, and without the care they need. With up to 90% of patients with rare and prevalent hard-to-diagnose conditions falling into these care gaps, an alarming percentage of the world's population is currently left untreated or under-treated.

Pangaea Data: Closing care gaps

With offices in South San Francisco and London, Pangaea Data provides an Al-powered platform for the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries, focusing on closing the care gaps that can cause patient care to be delayed-or come too late.

Pangaea's platform applies Al to analyze patient health records based on clinical guidelines, thus emulating a clinician's manual review, to uncover information and knowledge buried in medical records and find untreated and under-treated patients. This enables clinicians to take timely, informed action at the point of care. The platform is deployed behind the health system's firewall and seamlessly integrates with electronic health record (EHR) and scheduling systems, ensuring privacy compliance and no disruption to existing workflows.

To achieve its growth goals, Pangaea needed to scale rapidly and reach more healthcare customers. Built on Azure, Pangaea's platform is automatically accessible to any Azure customer through the Microsoft marketplace. By adopting the marketplace, Pangaea streamlined procurement and sales processes-freeing up time and resources to focus on innovation rather than administrative overhead.

Speeding sales, boosting security

Pangaea needed a solution that would give them access to an expanded pool of healthcare and pharmaceutical customers, and as part of the Pegasus program, the company entered the Microsoft marketplace to increase its market reach.

Security and privacy was a top concern for Pangaea, enabling them to continue to meet stringent, evolving healthcare compliance standards. Another priority was reducing the length of the sales cycle. On average, the process for healthcare companies onboarding a new vendor can take 6-9 months, so Pangaea looked to Microsoft marketplace as a way to streamline traditional procurement and onboarding processes. "For healthcare companies, the procurement process takes about six to nine months because there is a lot of information that must be exchanged," said Vibhor Gupta, Founder of Pangaea Data. 'With the marketplace, that's already been done in the background, and they can get access to Pangaea's platform in just a few clicks."

Partnering with Microsoft

The company’s partnership with Microsoft grew organically out of the increasing use of Microsoft Azure by Pangaea’s customer base—particularly in the healthcare sector. Pangaea enhances its platform’s features with advanced Azure-based AI tools and services, including Azure OpenAI Service, which provides powerful natural language processing and reasoning capabilities; Azure Machine Learning, enabling continuous model training and iterative improvements to the system; and Azure AI Foundry to provide a robust environment for building and testing new AI-driven features.

“Using the Microsoft marketplace, we're making our platform more available to our customers, enabling clinicians to focus their time engaging directly with patients and improving their outcomes.”

Jingqing Zhang, PhD, Head of AI, Pangaea Data

Because many of Pangaea’s healthcare customers already use Microsoft Azure, the alignment with Microsoft made it significantly easier for Pangaea to deploy their platform directly into each customer’s existing Azure environment, streamlining integration with customers’ existing systems and ensuring no disruption to workflows.

The Microsoft partnership helps Pangaea advance its imperatives around privacy and compliance, security, innovation, and scalability. Azure’s HIPAA-compliant infrastructure aligns with the strict privacy requirements of the healthcare industry, enabling Pangaea to deploy their platform behind the firewall of health systems, ensuring that no sensitive patient data leaves the organization’s secure environment.

Using tools within Azure AI Foundry, Pangaea rapidly innovates and expands their platform capabilities—releasing new features based on real-time feedback and performance data. Azure also provides an integrated pathway to reach new customers and grow Pangaea’s platform’s market presence. With these capabilities, Pangaea can now deploy a full platform environment for a customer in just 30 minutes.

Scaling smarter with Microsoft marketplace

By introducing their platform on the Microsoft marketplace, Pangaea dramatically simplified deployment for healthcare and pharmaceutical customers. The robust Azure capabilities enabled faster implementation with minimal disruption to customer environments, dramatically reducing setup and configuration times. This accelerated deployment has been especially valuable in the healthcare sector, where agility and compliance are critical.

“Microsoft marketplace has become our preferred platform to close deals. It's faster for the customer, and it's faster for us,” stated Jingqing Zhang, PhD, Head of AI, Pangaea Data.

As demand for AI-driven healthcare solutions increases, the Microsoft marketplace helps Pangaea scale their platform more efficiently. Having their platform on the Microsoft marketplace unlocked new visibility and revenue potential for Pangaea. Being vetted and endorsed by Microsoft gave immediate credibility with customers, and the marketplace made Pangaea’s platform discoverable to hundreds of potential healthcare and pharmaceutical customers. In fact, Pangaea landed a customer just eight weeks after going live—a stark contrast to the traditional six- to nine-month healthcare vendor onboarding cycle.

By purchasing through the marketplace, Pangaea customers bypass time-consuming procurement processes, fulfill their MACC commitments, and standardize purchasing on a single platform—all of which contribute to faster revenue recognition and enhanced customer satisfaction. The co-selling support provided through the partnership further amplified Pangaea’s reach, with Microsoft account executives proactively introducing Pangaea’s platform to health systems and pharmaceutical companies.

Together, these marketplace benefits have enabled the company to achieve operational efficiency, accelerated sales, and scalable growth, supporting Pangaea’s mission of delivering tools that close care gaps in the healthcare and pharma sectors. Zhang confirms this, stating that, “using the Microsoft marketplace, we're making our platform more available to our customers, enabling clinicians to focus their time engaging directly with patients and improving their outcomes.”
