S&P Global Commodity Insights unlocks 95% faster data extraction with Microsoft Copilot

S&P Global provides AI-ready data for their customers. The company wanted to make it easier for customers to take advantage of the AI-ready format. It needed to empower users to easily access and surface comprehensive commodities insights.

A longtime Microsoft collaborator, the company knew Microsoft 365 would be a familiar, highly secure platform for customers. Using Microsoft Copilot agent builder and Microsoft Graph connectors, it built a Copilot agent accessible in Microsoft Teams.

Easy access to actionable data and insights from S&P Global Commodity Insights in a familiar, existing workflow is expected to open up new opportunities for customers to make informed and efficient decisions.

A bold step forward

Recognizing the growing demand for AI-ready data, S&P Global took a bold step forward and transformed its vast datasets into formats optimized for AI.

To unlock the full potential of the AI-ready data, accessibility had to be reimagined.

“Even though we were delivering AI-ready data, many of our customers didn’t have the technical expertise to use it effectively,” explains Priyanka John, VP of Digital Product Management at S&P Global Commodity Insights. “They were excited about the potential, but they needed a simpler way to access and interact with the data.”

S&P Global wanted to empower its customers to make more informed and efficient decisions with its solutions. The company needed to make its powerful, trusted insights more accessible by enabling customers to work within their existing workflows—no switching between platforms and applications.

A trusted solution

S&P found the answer in a place its customers are already familiar with: Microsoft 365.

“Microsoft tools are deeply embedded in our customers’ daily workflows,” notes Stephanie Comardelle, Chief Experience Officer at S&P Global Commodity Insights. “It made perfect sense to collaborate with Microsoft, where our customers’ trust in our data and insights is expanded by their trust in Microsoft.” Offering best-in-class datasets within a best-in-class productivity tool was a natural fit.

Using Microsoft Copilot agent builder and Microsoft Graph connectors, S&P Global created a custom declarative agent called S&P Commodity Insights AI-Ready Data in Microsoft Copilot. The agent interoperates seamlessly with Microsoft Teams and the Microsoft 365 ecosystem, giving subscribed customers access to S&P Global’s insights with a simple prompt—no technical skills required.

“Now, instead of downloading reports or building custom interfaces, customers just ask a question in Teams and get the insights they need,” says John. “It’s a game changer.”

A secure, familiar workspace

The interoperability with Teams was intentional. Many of S&P Global’s customers already use Teams to collaborate, making it the perfect environment to surface data and insights in real time. Whether they’re comparing market trends, summarizing reports, or exploring investment scenarios, customers now do it all within their existing workflow.

Behind the scenes, Microsoft Graph connectors help ensure that each customer accesses only the data they’re entitled to, aligned with their subscription and security requirements. “That was critical for us,” John adds. “We needed to maintain the integrity of our commercial models while making the experience seamless.”

The result is a more intuitive, productive, and secure way for customers to engage with S&P Global’s data.

“This isn’t just about convenience,” explains Eramo. “It’s about helping our customers make faster, smarter decisions. We’re removing friction from their workflows so they can focus on what matters: navigating complex markets with confidence.”

A foundation for the future

The new Copilot experience is still in its early days, but the response has been overwhelmingly positive.

“Our customers are excited,” says Comardelle. “They see the potential to transform not just how they access data, but how their entire teams work.”

By embedding insights into familiar Microsoft tools, S&P Global is making it easier for customers to act with confidence.
