Lindex modernizes store operations with RFID and Microsoft Intune

Lindex, a top European fashion retailer, wanted to modernize store operations and give employees faster, simpler digital tools. It needed a unified, secure platform to streamline device management and improve the in-store customer experience.

The company adopted Microsoft Intune to manage thousands of shared devices in its stores, which unified management and security, simplified updates and app access, and helped employees work faster, collaborate easily, and stay focused on customers.

Lindex has significantly improved daily store operations. Inventory routines are faster, employees spend less time on manual tasks, and teams can stay with customers more often, strengthening accuracy, efficiency, and the in-store experience.

“For us, choosing Intune was a strategic move grounded in our strong competence with Microsoft platforms. We were already deeply invested in Microsoft’s ecosystem, from productivity tools to cloud infrastructure. Building our mobile platform on Intune let us stay aligned with our overall technology strategy.”

As customer expectations have shifted toward immediacy and convenience, retail is changing fast. In this new environment, a brand's ability to adapt its operations is key.

For more than seventy years, Lindex has shaped the Scandinavian fashion landscape, growing from a single lingerie store in Alingsås, Sweden, to one of Europe’s leading fashion retailers. Throughout its journey, Lindex has remained committed to supporting women’s needs, and today, that commitment continues by driving meaningful change. With hundreds of stores across Northern and Central Europe and an expanding online presence, the company continues to evolve while staying close to its roots. “Customers now expect fast, smooth service, whether they want help from staff or prefer to shop on their own,” says Joakim Inghammar, Head of Domain Development at Lindex. “That means our teams need to be more flexible, ready to support in any situation.”

Lindex needed to make information accessible instantly on the sales floor, not just in the back office. The goal was clear: give every employee the tools to serve customers faster, work smarter, and create a seamless shopping experience from the moment customers enter the store to when they check out.

Unifying devices, data, and daily tasks

Lindex’s modernization began where its identity is strongest: in the stores. Lindex wanted one secure, consistent platform to unify device management, cut costs, and keep employees focused on customers. The shift to consumer-grade Android devices also reduced hardware costs and improved flexibility across stores.

The company adopted Microsoft Intune as its unified environment for managing shared Android devices. Employees sign in with their own credentials through single sign-on, creating a secure, personalized experience each shift. Devices are enrolled as Android Enterprise Dedicated and configured with Microsoft Managed Home Screen app, presenting a clear, consistent interface with only the apps employees need. Through Intune, IT can preconfigure apps and settings to keep setup fast and consistent across stores. Authentication runs through Shared Device Mode in Microsoft Entra ID, which lets employees sign in to all work apps with one login and securely sign out so the device is ready for the next user.

“For us, choosing Intune was a strategic move grounded in our strong competence with Microsoft platforms,” says Inghammar. “We were already deeply invested in Microsoft’s ecosystem, from productivity tools to cloud infrastructure. Building our mobile platform on Intune let us stay aligned with our overall technology strategy.”

By consolidating all device management into Intune, Lindex simplified compliance, strengthened security, and reduced the overhead of running multiple tools. “It wasn’t just about choosing a tool,” Inghammar adds. “It was about choosing a direction that lets us scale efficiently and reduce complexity.”

On the sales floor, that direction quickly translated into smoother workflows. Associates now begin each shift by signing in, opening Managed Home Screen, and finding all their tasks in one place, from deliveries and refill lists to online order pickups. The company also equipped stores with RFID-enabled tools for faster inventory checks, managed and secured through Intune, giving staff up-to-date product data wherever they are on the floor. Carol Quintana, Store Sales Manager at Lindex, has seen how much easier it is to manage her team. “Now we have one device with everything in it. I can check stock, receive goods, or update the refill list while staying with the customer. It’s faster and more efficient for everyone.”

The rollout also brought consistency to communications. Microsoft Teams is now installed on every device, creating a single space for store updates and coordination. The chat in Teams has become integral for managers and staff to stay in sync. “We see a major role for Teams in our frontline communication strategy,” says Inghammar. “We’re already using chat across stores and actively testing Shifts, Planner, and Walkie Talkie in Teams to help our teams collaborate more efficiently.”

“With Intune, every device is ready right out of the box. We can push updates, maintain security, and ensure every store has the same experience. Managed Home Screen keeps things simple for the teams—they get exactly what they need without distraction.”

Simplifying oversight for IT and staff alike

From an IT perspective, Intune gives the company a single pane of glass to oversee thousands of endpoints. Niklas Jenslov, Platform Engineer at Lindex, calls that visibility essential. “With Intune, every device is ready right out of the box,” he explains. “We can push updates, maintain security, and ensure every store has the same experience. Managed Home Screen keeps things simple for the teams—they get exactly what they need without distraction.”

That simplicity translates into less downtime and more time for customers. Instead of managing multiple systems, with Intune streamlining device management, the IT team can focus on refining the in-store experience. “Having all our devices under Intune makes operations manageable at scale,” Jenslov says. “It’s a smarter way to grow.”

Frontline employees feel the difference too. Klara Frilén, Salesperson at Lindex, says the mobile devices have become part of the daily rhythm. “It’s easier to find information and help customers quickly,” she says. “I can look up what’s in stock or check an order right on the device. It saves time and keeps me with the customer instead of walking away to check something.”

With Intune and Managed Home Screen handling the technical side, Lindex has built a strong foundation for agility. Store teams can do more from a single device, IT teams spend less time troubleshooting, and operations run more consistently across hundreds of stores. “Having all the tools and services in one place has made our work much more efficient,” says Inghammar. “Instead of searching for information or switching systems, our teams can focus on what matters most: serving customers.”

As deployment continues, Lindex is refining how its technology supports daily retail life and prepares the business to measure impact at scale.

Realizing the impact of connected retail

The results of Lindex’s digital transformation are measurable across every level of the business. With Android devices managed through Intune, routine store tasks that once consumed entire shifts now take a fraction of the time. Using RFID tagging alongside Intune-managed devices, store teams can scan and verify items in real time. With devices always updated and ready to use, store teams can rely on accurate data and consistent performance across locations. “Some of the benefits have been massive changes in stock accuracy and efficiency,” says Inghammar. “We have more relevant stock in store and the right item at the right time. It has improved our replenishment and strengthened product availability for customers.”

Across 400 stores, more than 3,200 Intune-managed devices are now in use. Store teams report smoother communication, faster workflows, and a more connected experience overall. Employees now spend less time stepping away for information and more time with customers. “We’ve seen a clear impact across our workforce, IT operations, and customer experience,” Inghammar adds. “With Intune bringing all our tools and services together, work has become far more efficient and consistent.” Those improvements are visible across every store, from faster workflows to stronger collaboration.

For IT, consolidating endpoint management has reduced complexity and cost. “With Intune, we can see the health of all the devices and keep them secure without disrupting store operations,” says Jenslov. “It’s reliable, scalable, and gives us the control we need to support all our stores.” Consolidating onto a single management platform has also lowered licensing and hardware costs, freeing IT resources for continued innovation. That reliability gives employees more time for what matters most. “Saving time for our staff results in more customer interaction,” Inghammar says. “At the end of the day, that means a better customer experience.”

As Lindex continues its rollout, leadership sees the technology as a key part of staying competitive in modern retail: combining Swedish design and sustainability with the efficiency of a digitally connected workforce.
