Following the breakout success of the genre-blending "Old Town Road," trailblazing rapper, singer, and songwriter, Lil Nas X, incited a global firestorm through his unabashed depictions of Black, queer sexuality. The sharp turn in his music left many to argue whether the native Atlantan was an artistic genius, an agent of Satan, or a devious social media troll. Long Live Montero follows Lil Nas X over a period of 60 days as he embarks on his first ever tour, from rehearsals to his final show. The show, an ambitious mix of music, theater, and dance, is deeply autobiographical and tests the young artist both physically and emotionally. Along his journey, Lil Nas X experiences challenges and triumphs, from homophobic protesters to a string of sold-out shows, all while reflecting on his place within the legacy of other Black, queer performers. Yet, his biggest challenge is whether his family will accept him for who he truly is.
