Part 1 of 2. The people of the Twelve Colonies have been at peace with their enemies, the Cylons, for over forty years, but that changes when the Cylons stage a sudden sneak attack that defeats the Colonial defenses and destroys entire population centers under a devastating nuclear attack. At the time of the sneak attack, the Battlestar Galactica (a space-going aircraft carrier, carrying squadrons of manned fighters as her primary weapon) is being decommissioned and turned into a museum ship. Her usefulness to the fleet had come to an end and her commanding officer, Adama (Edward James Olmos) was about to be retired. Too far out of position to participate in the initial battle, Galactica ironically becomes the sole surviving battlestar when, through the treachery of a human named Baltar (James Callis), the Cylons gain access to secret Colonial defense systems and are able to annihilate the entire human fleet. Recently sworn in as the new Colonial President, Laura Roslin (Mary McDonnell) manages to gather up all surviving elements of humanity into a “rag-tag fugitive fleet” and seeks the protection of the Galactica. Faced with the reality of being hopelessly outgunned and outnumbered, Adama decides to escape with the civilian craft and seek out a new home for humanity – a mythical planet of fellow humans somewhere in the galaxy known only as “Earth.”

Five days have passed since we last left Galactica, and in those five days, the Cylons have been chasing our people every step of the way. Every time Galactica and the fleet make a Jump, there is a 33 minute window before the Cylons Jump to their location and the fleet has to Jump away -- then another 33 minute respite before the Cylons show up again. How the Cylons are following them and why it takes 33 minutes to make the follow-up Jump are questions no one has the answers to, and all our heroes can do at the moment is keep Jumping and hope that they’ll find a way to shake their pursuers.

Something is wrong with Raptor pilot Sharon Valerii. She inexplicably wakes up, soaking wet, inside the Galactica Tool Room with a G-4 detonator in her bag. Totally panicked, she goes to the Small Arms Locker and finds a total of six G-4 bomb detonators missing. What Valerii doesn’t know is that those six G-4 bombs are activated somewhere on Galactica. No one knows. But when they go off, Galactica will be in big trouble…

After finding water on a distant moon in the previous episode, Galactica must find a way to pump that water onto the ship, a labor-intensive duty requiring a lot of manpower. Commander Adama's suggestion is to employ some of the men incarcerated on the Astral Queen, a prison ship. But President Roslin is skeptical, only agreeing if the prisoners can earn ‘points’ toward freedom, an idea that Adama finds dangerous. Finally, Lee steps in and strikes a compromise and agrees to lead a contingent to the Astral Queen to present the offer to the prisoners. Laura and Commander Adama will each send a representative to ensure their respective concerns are addressed. Initially, they expect the confined men will leap at the chance to leave the small confines of their transport cells but Lee’s offer is met with eerie silence. In fact, when the cells are opened, not a single man steps out to accept. Soon, they discover the reason why. That reason is Tom Zarek…

A celebration commemorating Raptor pilot Flat-Top’s 1000th landing turns tragic when a communications drone breaks free of its metal band and shoots across the hangar bay. Many Galactica pilots are injured, and thirteen are dead. A memorial service is planned for the dead pilots. During the service, Adama, Lee Adama and Kara Thrace recall moments from two years earlier – when they all attended Zak Adama’s funeral (younger brother to Lee) who died during a routine flight.

In the aftermath of Episode Four, search and rescue operations are underway for missing Viper pilot Kara Thrace. Sharon Valerii and Crashdown retrieve battered rookie pilot Constanza, but when they bring him back to Galactica, he is foggy on the details and provides only limited information. He claims that Kara was alive when the Cylon Raider hit her, but has no idea where she is now. Commander Adama and Lee Adama don’t care how unlikely her chance of survival is -- they intend to find Kara and bring her home.

As Galactica passes another seemingly routine night, a man who we know as Doral (the Cylon model who disguised himself as a PR man) stealths his way through the ship with a block of G-4 attached to his chest. When the Cylon-turned suicide bomber finally detonates himself, the actual damage isn’t as bad as it could have been (Three are dead, while Commander Adama barely missed the blast’s impact thanks to Colonel Tigh's instinct), but the collateral damage will be far worse.

Another day, another argument between Gaius Baltar and Number Six. He wants to have sex, she wants to talk about God. Despite everything that’s happened, part of him – a big part of him – still looks upon her as a mirage, certainly not someone to verse him in the mysteries of the universe. He is pulled out of his fantasy by a call to CIC. When he walks in, Six is already in CIC…Talking to Commander Adama? Everyone can see her! Baltar feels himself coming unmoored, when the hammer falls: Six (calling herself Shelly Godfrey) has called Baltar out as a traitor and tells Adama and everyone else that he’s ‘the man responsible for the (Cylon) holocaust.’

President Laura Roslin has just awakened from a nightmare – during which the Cylon Leoben chases her through the woods – when she is informed that a Cylon, Leoben, has been captured aboard the Gemenon Traveler, a civilian ship. It seems the decision to go public with their knowledge of the Cylons has paid off, as Leoben was identified from photographs that were passed around the fleet. Commander Adama wants the Cylon executed immediately. But Laura demands that the prisoner be interrogated, a request that Adama reluctantly agrees to, though only if Kara Thrace is the one doing the questioning.

At the end of the previous episode, President Laura Roslin was left with five little words that have been eating at her. ‘Commander Adama is a Cylon.’ Of course, it was a Cylon who told her on his way to execution, but still, in these times, one doesn’t know just who might be a Cylon. Things are further complicated when Adama shows up with Colonel Saul Tigh's wife Ellen in tow. Ellen was long-presumed dead and when Saul sees her he’s overcome with joy. Adama is more guarded however, as he doesn’t quite buy Ellen’s story – that she was in a hospital unconscious – given her history of marital infidelity. While Adama wants to make Tigh happy, he first wants Ellen tested as a Cylon (on the sly) before giving his full approval.

The fleet only has enough Tylium Fuel to make a few more jumps, so Commander Adama sends a search party to nearby star systems. Sharon and Crashdown return with good news and bad. They’ve found huge tylium deposits on an asteroid just one jump away, but there is a Cylon base there, with hundreds of Raiders guarding the fuel. Adama insists that while they know where the Cylons are, the Cylons don’t know where Galactica is. He wants to take the fight to the enemy. It’s a big gamble: if they win, they’ll have all the fuel they need; if they lose, the entire human race will perish.

It’s Colonial Day – a holiday celebrating the establishment of the Twelve Colonies – the first Colonial Day since the Cylon attacks. Laura Roslin insists on celebration because she believes that upholding traditions will inspire people to embrace the future. Also, she has other ambitions for the day. With her own health uncertain, she knows she must choose a successor and Colonial Day will be an ideal time to announce her candidate for Vice President. The celebration is held on the “Cloud Nine,” a luxury ship which offers all of the amenities of a five star hotel – pools, spas, lush gardens, etc. Surviving representatives from each of the twelve colonies are sent to the ship to help elect a Vice-President, though Laura assumes it won’t be much trouble to get her choice, Wallace Gray, pushed through. Dr. Baltar is one of Caprica’s delegates while a familiar face represents Sagittarian: Tom Zarek. Zarek, the political prisoner from episode three (Bastille Day), has always proved popular in Sagittarian, even if many see him as a terrorist (even a ‘rehabilitated one.’) Zarek is of course, ready for the limelight and when he arrives to meet and greet the press, he’s all smiles and politically correct sound-bites. Laura immediately knows Zarek could be a big problem.
Kobol's Last Gleaming-Part 1

The wear and tear of life on the run has caught up with everyone on the fleet and is affecting them in diverse ways. Adama and Lee attempt to stave off their tension in a boxing match, and Kara and Baltar engage in a sexual romp where Kara is so distracted, she calls out the wrong name (Lee’s name), which insults Dr. Baltar so much that he walks out on her. The news is far more grim for Laura, who learns that her cancer has progressed and that her time is running out. Laura confers with Elosha, and is oddly comforted when the prelate persists in her faith – that Laura is the one who will save the fleet and ultimately lead the embattled survivors of mankind to the promised land of Earth. Sharon on Galactica is about to end her stress. She sticks a gun in her mouth. Will she pull the trigger..? Should she pull the trigger..? A call comes in for her to report to duty, and Sharon decides to live another day. She and Crashdown are sent into space, and they Jump their Raptor harrowingly close to a strange new planet. They study the planet’s surface and Crashdown ponders, “Could this be Earth?” Sharon knows it’s even more important. The planet is Kobol.
Kobol's Last Gleaming-Part 2

We continue from the last episode with Colonial Raptors battling Cylon Raiders as they plummet toward the planet Kobol. Tyrol, Crashdown, and their ground crew swarm to save people from a burning Raptor. Dr. Baltar is aboard the Raptor and seems doomed until Number Six guides him out of the flames. He is saved and grateful, but already it’s clear that Number Six is guiding him to something bigger. She seems to be guiding him to his destiny… On Galactica, Gaeta shares his work on the Cylon transponders with Adama and Tigh. The transponder devices identify themselves to each other. This is great news for the fleet as they can use a device to fool the Cylons and destroy their base ship. Adama tells Laura that Kara is working on a plan to use the Cylon Raider to accomplish this goal. Laura expresses concern over using the Raider as she wanted to use it herself. Adama firmly reminds her -- that’s not going to happen.
Laura works quickly now. She talks to Billy about her belief in the prophecies, but Billy reminds her that she’s embracing a “drug-induced vision of prophecy.” Laura moves on to Lee. She conveys her belief that the scriptures have led them to Kobol, and will lead them to Earth. Lee listens, but he won’t budge. He will follow his father’s command. Laura’s next target is Kara, someone whom she knows will respond to scriptural quotation. At first, Kara thinks Laura’s plan to go to Caprica is lunacy and she balks at the idea. So Laura plays rough. She informs Kara that Adama doesn’t really know the way to Earth. Just ask him.

With Commander Adama (Edward James Olmos) fighting for his life after being shot by the Cylon infiltrator Sharon, and President Roslin (Mary McDonnell) languishing in the Galactica’s brig after losing the power struggle with Adama, Colonel Tigh (Michael Hogan) is thrust into the unfamiliar role of the sole leader in a time of crisis. The situation worsens quickly. First, Tigh sends Lee (Jamie Bamber) to the brig for siding with Roslin against Commander Adama. Then an emergency jump to escape an incoming Cylon force goes wrong, leaving Galactica alone in space, separated from the rest of the fleet – and from the medical help needed to save Adama’s life. As Tigh struggles to come to terms with this crisis, he thinks back on his relationship with Adama, who saved him from oblivion and from his own fierce temper, and tries to tap into some of the wisdom that his old friend offered him. It soon becomes clear that to reconnect with the fleet, Galactica must jump back into danger over Kobol and network its computers, a highly risky move that will make the ship vulnerable to attack from both the Cylon fighters and their crippling computer viruses. Meanwhile, on the surface of Kobol, Chief Tyrol (Aaron Douglas) and the rest of the downed Raptor crew fight for their lives against an unseen enemy while Vice President Baltar (James Callis) seeks solace in his visions of Number Six (Tricia Helfer), only to find those visions turn dark and haunting. Light-years away, on Cylon-occupied Caprica, Kara (Katee Sackhoff) and Helo (Tahmoh Penikett) must find some way to bring the Arrow of Apollo back to the fleet – but first they have to get it back from the avatar of Number Six who has found it in the Delphi Museum.

The Galactica has succeeded in reuniting with the fleet, but it has paid a terrible price: A Cylon computer virus has penetrated its computers, robbing the ship of power, and Cylon Centurions have boarded the Galactica and are battling their way to the ship’s vulnerable centers. Lee Adama (Jamie Bamber), in the brig with President Roslin (Mary McDonnell) persuades some marines to release them. He orders Billy and Vedder to take the president to the sickbay disaster shelter, where she’ll be safe, and heads off with a squad of marines to defend the ship’s magazines. In the CIC, however, Col. Tigh (Michael Hogan) knows from bitter experience what the Cylons are planning. The Centurions aren’t going to blow up the ship; they’re going to kill the crew by venting the ship’s air and then turn its guns on the rest of the fleet. And only Lee – whom Tigh despises for his “disloyalty” to Commander Adama (i.e., support for the president) – and his small squad of marines are in position to stop the Cylon boarding party. Meanwhile, on Cylon-occupied Caprica, Starbuck (Katee Sackhoff) and Helo (Tahmoh Penikett) break into her old apartment and fire up her old pickup truck. Light-years away on Kobol, Chief Tyrol (Aaron Douglas) and his crew return from their risky mission to get medical supplies for Socinus, only to realize that the wounded man isn’t going to make it. Number Six (Tricia Helfer) warns Baltar (James Callis) that Socinus won’t be the last of the stranded Raptor crew to die – and that of all the humans, Baltar alone will live to see Earth.

As Doc Cottle (Donnelly Rhodes) works to save Commander Adama’s (Edward James Olmos) life, Col. Tigh (Michael Hogan) is beginning to realize that there’s more to being a leader than giving orders. The press is clamoring for answers, everyone wants a decision now, and he feels himself being drawn to his old friend and enemy, the bottle. Worst of all, the Quorum of Twelve has arrived on the Galactica and is demanding to see President Roslin (Mary McDonnell). Tigh resists, but his wife Ellen (Kate Vernon) convinces him that the president has lost her mind and that letting her meet with the Quorum will only cement Tigh’s power. The plan backfires; Roslin’s odd behavior was only a symptom of chamalla withdrawal, and when she meets the other leaders she has recovered her composure. She condemns Adama’s action and announces the she is the leader, spoken of in the Scrolls of Phylia, who will lead the people to Earth. Livid, Tigh orders the Quorum off his ship. Meanwhile, Lee Adama (Jamie Bamber) leads a search and rescue mission to find the Raptor crew lost on Kobol, unaware that the Cylons have set up a missile battery in anticipation of such an effort. It falls to the beleaguered survivors on the ground to knock out the Cylon artillery before Galactica’s rescue team flies into the trap. Unfortunately, Chief Tyrol (Aaron Douglas) has serious misgivings about Crashdown’s (Sam Witwer) plan to destroy the missile battery – and about the lieutenant’s ability to lead a team of non-combat personnel against high-tech killing machines. Vice President Baltar (James Callis) has even graver doubts – because Number Six (Tricia Helfer) has warned him that one of their number will betray the others on Kobol.

Col. Tigh’s (Michael Hogan) imposition of martial law threatens to split the crew and the fleet. He’s thrown Chief Tyrol (Aaron Douglas) into the brig on suspicion of being a Cylon and his dismissal of the Quorum has provoked the other ships to refuse to send fuel and other supplies to the Galactica. His judgment blurred by drink and the goading of his ambitious wife, Ellen (Kate Vernon), Tigh sends armed troops to one of the ships to take supplies by force, a move that ends in disaster when civilians are killed. Amid this chaos, Lee (Jamie Bamber) schemes to free President Roslin (Mary McDonnell) to establish a democratic opposition. He makes a break for freedom with Roslin, while Roslin’s close aide Billy (Paul Campbell) chooses to stay behind. Tigh threatens to shoot down the Raptor carrying Roslin away from the Galactica, but can’t bring himself to kill his friend’s only surviving son, and Lee and Roslin escape into the fleet at large. Meanwhile, Baltar uses Sharon’s (Grace Park) love for Tyrol to intimidate her into revealing how many Cylons are lurking in the fleet. On Cylon-occupied Caprica, Kara (Katee Sackhoff) and Helo (Tahmoh Penikett) find themselves in a standoff against other humans. Cooler heads prevail, and the pilots meet their new allies: a group of 53 survivors, led by Anders (Michael Trucco) and Sue-Shaun (Tamara Lashley), members of a professional pyramid team that survived the nuclear holocaust because they were training in the mountains. Kara enlists their help in her mission to get off Caprica.

Commander Adama (Edward James Olmos) returns to a hero’s welcome and an unenviable task: In order to maintain control of the fleet, he must track down his son, Lee, and President Roslin, who have escaped with Tom Zarek’s (Richard Hatch) help into hiding somewhere in the fleet. Adama orders all ships in the fleet searched. Meanwhile, Lee (Jamie Bamber) and Roslin (Mary McDonnell) prepare to send a message to the rest of the fleet seeking popular support. When the time comes, however, Lee can’t bring himself to publicly condemn his father. With no other choice, Roslin plays “the religious card” to save the human race. She declares herself to be the voice of the prophet Pythia. Her announcement sends shockwaves throughout the fleet’s population. Finally, unable to hide any longer, her ship makes the jump back to Kobol, where she plans to seek the road to Earth. To the surprise of many on the Galactica, and to Roslin herself, nearly one-third of the fleet follows her to Kobol. Far away, on Cylon-occupied Caprica, Kara (Katee Sackhoff) goes on recon with the resistance fighters and is wounded in a firefight. She finds herself being nursed back to health by Simon, an attentive doctor who tells that she can better serve the human race by having babies than by fighting Cylons. When Kara awakens with a new scar, though, she begins to suspect that neither Simon nor the hospital are what they seem. Sneaking out of her locked room, she discovers that Simon is a Cylon, and she kills him. Making a bid for freedom, she stumbles upon a chilling sight: a room full of women, including resistance fighter Sue-Shaun (Tamara Lashley), wired up by the Cylons to serve as baby machines.

Following the lead of President Roslin (Mary McDonnell) and Tom Zarek (Richard Hatch), more than one-third of the fleet has split from the Galactica and jumped into orbit around Kobol. Tensions arise within the rebel ranks on the Astral Queen as Zarek and his security Chief, Meier (James Remar), face off with Lee Adama (Jamie Bamber). Those tensions increase when Kara (Katee Sackhoff) and Helo (Tahmoh Penikett) return from Caprica with Sharon (Grace Park), who is now pregnant and a dead ringer for the Cylon who tried to assassinate Commander Adama. Roslin orders Sharon put to death, but after meeting with her, she learns that the Cylon might be their best hope for finding the Tomb of Athena and the route to Earth. Doubt nags at Roslin, however: is Sharon motivated by love for Helo, or by a desire to betray her captors? Regardless, she’s a key player in Roslin’s team as it lands on Kobol. With Zarek and Meier plotting fresh treacheries, the prophecies continue to unfold in bloody fashion. On the Galactica, Adama (Edward James Olmos) and Col. Tigh (Michael Hogan) weigh their losses and rebuild the air group’s chain of command, which has been plunged into disarray by the defections of Lee and Kara. Adama selects Lt. George “Catman” Birch (Ben Ayres) to replace Lee as CAG (Commander, Air Group). Birch’s first day on the job begins with a harrowing mishap during Viper-pilot training exercise, and then he turns a routine refueling operation into a near-disaster. Following an uncomfortable meeting with Dualla (Kandyse McClure), Adama is forced to admit that there is no substitute for the people the fleet has lost. He orders a Raptor to be prepped to take him and a small team back to Kobol, so that he can find Roslin and Lee and put the fleet back together.

Following a firefight with Cylon Centurions and the death of her spiritual advisor Elosha, President Roslin (Mary McDonnell) treks onward with her confederates in search of the Tomb of Athena. Heavy rain and Kobol’s rugged terrain make the journey difficult for all except the tireless Sharon (Grace Park). Tom Zarek (Richard Hatch) again butts heads with Lee Adama (Jamie Bamber), inspiring Zarek’s henchman Meier (James Remar) to consider drastic measures that will clear the path to power for his old friend. Meanwhile, aboard the Galactica, Gaius Baltar (James Callis) questions his sanity as Number Six (Tricia Helfer) toys with him, and Commander Adama (Edward James Olmos) mounts a rescue mission to Kobol. Adama enlists presidential aide Billy Keikeya (Paul Campbell) to join his quest for peace with the rebels. After discovering Elosha’s grave on Kobol, the Galactica landing party continues its search and finally intercepts Roslin and her group. Putting aside old conflicts, Adama opens the door to peaceful reconciliation for all. Meier, however, sees the détente between Adama and Roslin as a renewed threat to the rightful power of Tom Zarek, and he conspires with Sharon to murder Adama, Lee and the president.
Finding the ransacked tomb, the unified team struggles to unlock its secrets with the Arrow of Apollo. Before they can do so, however, Meier and Sharon spring their ambush, leaving everyone’s fates uncertain as the triggers are pulled…

Now that the fleet is reunited, old conflicts reignite. Criticism of the military reaches a fever pitch in the aftermath of the massacre on the Gideon. During the period of martial law, a team of Galactica’s marines, led by pilot Lt. Palladino, had opened fire on civilian protestors aboard the civilian freighter. Col. Tigh (Michael Hogan), commanding officer during the incident which left four civilians dead and a dozen others wounded, receives a death threat. Shortly afterward, he very nearly falls victim to an act of sabotage. It is decided that steps must be taken to ratchet down the rhetoric, on both sides of the dispute. Intent on improving relations between the civilian fleet and the military, President Roslin (Mary McDonnell) and Commander Adama (Edward James Olmos) offer Fleet News Service reporter D’Anna Biers (Lucy Lawless) unlimited access to the Galactica officers and crew. With her cameraman in tow, D’Anna interviews a series of stressed-out pilots, crew hands and officers. Gaius Baltar (James Callis), urged on by Number Six (Tricia Helfer), hopes to gain D’Anna’s support in his political ambitions. D’Anna stumbles onto one of the Galactica’s most explosive secrets, however, when she encounters the Cylon prisoner Sharon (Grace Park), whose unborn child is saved by the quick actions of Dr. Cottle (Donnelly Rhodes) following a near miscarriage. And when Louanne “Kat” Katraine (Luciana Carro), wired on stimulants, crash-lands her Viper, D’Anna must decide whether she’ll fashion her report as a hatchet job or as a more nuanced portrait of life aboard the Galactica. He verbally spars with Capt. Lee Adama (Jamie Bamber) and gets into a drunken punch-up with Helo (Tahmoh Penikett), who remains romantically committed to the current avatar of Sharon (Grace Park). After sending one more dilapidated Viper to the scrap heap, Tyrol vents his frustration by attempting to build a new plane from salvaged parts. His seemingly impossible mission generates cynicism at first, then growing respect and eventually a full team effort that pulls in even the skeptical Col. Tigh (Michael Hogan). Meanwhile, a Cylon virus penetrates the Galactica’s computers. It wreaks havoc by creating dangerous power surges, an unscheduled engine ignition and a near-fatal oxygen shutdown. Sharon, who remains imprisoned in the Galactica’s brig, is enlisted to defuse a threat that she immediately recognizes as the prelude to a Cylon assault. Adama orders the fleet to jump to new coordinates while the Galactica stays behind to wipe the virus from its computers and contend with a massive assault by more than 200 Cylon Raiders. Though Sharon’s motivations are in doubt – do the Cylons really pose a danger to her unborn child, or is she working some deep Cylon agenda? – she turns the computer virus against the attacking Cylon fleet and enables the Galactica and her vastly outnumbered Viper squadrons to win the battle without taking any casualties. The mood aboard the Galactica turns jubilant when the top-of-the-line battlestar Pegasus – long thought to have been annihilated with the rest of the colonial fleet – appears out of nowhere. The Galactica’s relatively ragged crew meets their spit-and-polish counterparts from the Pegasus, among them Admiral Helena Cain (Michelle Forbes), her X.O. Col. Jack Fisk; (Graham Beckel) and the ship’s CAG Capt. Cole “Stinger” Taylor. Cain warmly greets Commander Adama (Edward James Olmos), who chooses to yield command of the fleet to his superior officer. In private, Adama and Cain compare notes. Cain reveals that the Pegasus crew had taken its computers offline for servicing shortly before the original Cylon assault and therefore was able to escape the nuclear genocide. Since then, the ship has been on the relentless search-and-destroy mission against the Cylons. Each Battlestar holds a single Cylon prisoner. Because Vice President Gaius Baltar (James Callis) has successfully extracted information from Sharon (Grace Park), Cain invites him to study her Cylon captive on the Pegasus – a bruised and bloodied replica of Six (Tricia Helfer) named Gina. It is revealed that the Pegasus encountered the Galactica while tracking a Cylon fleet, which itself appears to have been pursuing the Galactica. Plans are laid for both battlestars to attack a mysterious vessel guarded by this fleet. However, Adama fumes when Cain announces that, due to rampant discipline problems on the Galactica, she will be reassigning key crewmembers from the Galactica to the Pegasus. Later, sparks fly quickly when Stinger maps out a reconnaissance plan that Starbuck (Katee Sackhoff) bluntly criticizes. Meanwhile, Lt. Thorne (Fulvio Cecere), the chief interrogator from the Pegasus, sets out to “break” Sharon like he broke Gina. Learning of Thorne’s brutal tactics, Helo (Tahmoh Penikett) and Tyrol (Aaron Douglas) rush to Sharon’s aid. A fistfight ensues, and Thorne is accidentally killed. Cain orders a snap court-martial, and both Helo and Tyrol are sentenced to death. Refusing to allow his men to be convicted and executed without a full tribunal and the opportunity to mount a legal defense, Commander Adama initiates a high-stakes game of chicken that leads to Vipers from both ships training weapons on each other. Admiral Adama (Edward James Olmos) is determined to carry out Roslin’s final decree until Baltar discovers that the hybrid blood cells may have fantastic healing abilities. Meanwhile, an underground group of Cylon sympathizers resort to sabotage to deliver their message – humanity must broker peace with the Cylons. Adama arrests their leader, Royan Jahee (Paul Perri), but the group continues its violent rampage, bombing the tylium refinery and leaving the fleet vulnerable to enemy attack. In the wake of the human exodus from New Caprica, there are many scores left to be settled. Without Laura (Mary McDonnell) or Adama’s (Edward James Olmos) knowledge, a secret jury has been formed aboard Galactica. Made up of Tigh (Michael Hogan), Tyrol (Aaron Douglas), Anders (Michael Trucco) and other members of the resistance, its role is to pass judgment on those who collaborated with the Cylons. There are no lawyers or argument, and a guilty verdict means death. At the same time, the Cylons have their own jury assembled to determine the fate of Baltar (James Callis), with the vote hanging on a reluctant Number Six (Tricia Helfer). With all this in motion, Laura and Tom Zarek (Richard Hatch) strike a deal for her to return as president while Zarek stays on as vice-president. Laura is at first shocked when Zarek admits he set up the secret jury to deal with collaborators. His logic, however, is undeniable: better to deal with this now his way, the quick and dirty way, than to have long trials that could divide the fleet and leave Laura with blood on her hands. But can a quick and dirty “trial” justly decide the fate of people like Jammer (Dominic Zamprogna), who joined the Cylon-organized police force and took part in raids, but also saved Cally (Nicki Clyne) from execution? And how will the jury treat Gaeta (Alessandro Juliani), who served under a duplicitous Baltar but, unbeknownst to any of them, was the source of all the leaked information that allowed the insurgency to operate against the Cylons?

A team from Galactica boards the infected baseship and finds hundreds of dead and dying Cylons. It’s an intelligence windfall. Adama (Edward James Olmos) orders the team to tap into the dying Hybrid and to return with the surviving Cylons. Adama sends Starbuck (Katee Sackhoff) in to interrogate them. The deal she offers the Cylons is simple: cooperate and you get the vaccine and live; resist and you die – forever. Simon (Rick Worthy) reveals that Baltar (James Callis) is helping the Cylons find earth and Lee (Jamie Bamber) gets an idea: if the virus is spread by resurrection, it may be possible to set a trap and use it to destroy the Cylon race. Helo (Tahmoh Penikett) is outraged – this is genocide, the extinction of his wife’s race – but Adama and Laura (Mary McDonnell) take the idea seriously. Meanwhile, the Cylons hold Baltar responsible for the virus and are torturing him for more information. Number Six (Tricia Helfer) talks him through the pain, filling his mind first with pleasure and then with a warning. As Galactica’s trap is sprung and the Cylons move in, Baltar must once again choose between his own people and his captors while Helo must decide how far his loyalties will go.

In an effort to clear the air and bring the ship together again, Adama (Edward James Olmos) allows the crew to hold a “dance”: an impromptu boxing tournament where rank is forgotten and anyone can challenge anyone else. But as the fights unfold, with Tigh (Michael Hogan) playing referee and ringmaster, it becomes clear that the ring is haunted by thoughts of the recent past, of the shattered promise of a peaceful life in New Caprica, of the divisions that have emerged within the fleet and on Galactica. Things take an unexpected turn when Adama challenges Tyrol (Aaron Douglas); both men take their best shots, but the younger and stronger Tyrol has the advantage over his commander. That bout, however, is only a prelude to the main event: Apollo (Jamie Bamber) and Starbuck (Katee Sackhoff). As they go toe to toe – and as Sam (Michael Trucco) and Dualla (Kandyse McClure) watch from the sidelines – the memories come flooding back: the promises made and broken, the feelings that once brought them together only to tear them apart.

When the fleet’s food-processing machinery is contaminated, the threat of starvation looms. Sharon (Grace Park) is sent out to find a planet that can supply food for 38,000 people. She finds a planet with a rich supply of algae, but it’s on the opposite side of a massive star cluster and passage will expose people to massive doses of radiation and disable the navigation systems of the civilian ships. Adama (Edward James Olmos) develops a plan to use the Raptors to guide the civilian ships through, but it will take an enormous toll on the pilots. When Kat (Luciana Carro) expresses her concerns, Kara (Katee Sackhoff) turns on her, while Kat’s old colleague Enzo (Patrick Currie) threatens to reveal dark secrets from her past. Meanwhile, Baltar (James Callis) discovers that D’Anna (Lucy Lawless) is using the power of resurrection to look beyond the physical world. He follows her, hoping to learn more about what she’s doing – and more about himself.

While working on the algae planet, Tyrol (Aaron Douglas) discovers the Temple of Five, reputed to be the home of the Eye of Jupiter, which will guide the ones who discover it to Earth. His report is intercepted by the Cylons, who request a meeting with Adama (Edward James Olmos) and Laura (Mary McDonnell). Their proposal: let us have the Eye and we will let you leave unharmed. Adama’s counter-proposal: make any move to take the Eye and we’ll nuke the planet. The Cylons bring another piece of news: Sharon (Grace Park) and Tyrol’s (Tahmoh Penikett) baby is alive, but not well. Sharon is initially skeptical, but when Adama confirms that Laura hid the baby at her school, she and Tyrol being to make plans to rescue her. As the standoff continues, tensions rise in both camps. On the Cylon baseship, D’Anna’s (Lucy Lawless) sense that she and Baltar (James Callis) share a destiny that might not include the others sows dissension, while on the algae planet, efforts to protect the Eye are complicated by Lee’s simmering affair with Kara (Katee Sackhoff), especially since Lee (Jamie Bamber) is counting on Anders (Michael Trucco), Kara’s husband, to rally the civilians to the cause. Then the Cylons launch a flight of raiders, bound for the algae planet, forcing Adama to show he’s not bluffing.

On the algae planet, Lee (Jamie Bamber) and Anders (Michael Trucco) prepare to fend off the Cylon assault on the Temple of Five – supposed site of the Eye of Jupiter, an artifact which the scriptures claim points the way to Earth. The task gets tougher still when Kara’s (Katee Sackhoff) raptor is hit by enemy fire and crashlands on the planet. With limited manpower and the Cylons in full force, Lee determines that they can’t afford to go after Starbuck. However, to stave off mutiny by Anders and his men, Lee must order his emotionally-conflicted wife Dualla (Kandyse McClure) to mount a rescue attempt. As the team of marines and civilians try to hold off the Cylon forces led by D’Anna (Lucy Lawless) and Baltar (James Callis), Tyrol (Aaron Douglas) rushes to make sense of the temple’s glyphs before the planet’s star explodes. Meanwhile, Sharon/Athena (Grace Park) infiltrates a Cylon baseship to rescue her hybrid baby, Hera.

Sleep deprived and on a hunger strike in his Galactica cell, Baltar (James Callis) tries hanging himself in the belief that he’s a Cylon and that resurrection will cleanse his soul. Gaeta (Alessandro Juliani) thwarts his suicide attempt, however, and Baltar lives to face an interrogation by Laura Roslin (Mary McDonnell) about his role in the original Cylon attack on the Colonies. His denials crumble when Caprica Six (Tricia Helfer) enters the interrogation room. She demands a public trial for her former lover, but Roslin and Adama (Edward James Olmos) opt to extract the information they’re looking for by injecting Baltar with potent hallucinogens. The extreme measures implemented on the former President reveal both his guilty conscience and his discoveries in the Temple of Five. Roslin and Adama task Gaeta with extracting more information from Baltar, hoping that the former presidential aide may still be trusted. However, they may have greatly underestimated the level of Gaeta’s resentment toward his former boss.
Meanwhile, Kara (Katee Sackhoff) continues her pursuit of Lee (Jamie Bamber), promising she’ll leave Anders (Michael Trucco) if he splits with Dualla (Kandyse McClure). The pair seems destined to be together, but their respective spouses battle to keep the marriages intact. With Tyrol (Aaron Douglas) feuding with his own wife Cally (Nicki Clyne), matters of the heart are debated in the smoky confines of Joe’s Bar.

“Paranoid, pig-headed and argumentative.” That’s the Sagitarron race as described by Dualla (Kandyse McClure), a Sag herself. Showing clear signs of Mellorak Sickness, a group of Sag refugees stick to fundamentalist beliefs by shunning the booster shots that will prevent both their own deaths and a widespread epidemic. Inside “Dogsville,” the Galactica hanger deck that houses refugees, the toxic atmosphere turns even more hostile when Dr. Roberts (Bruce Davison) fails to save a series of patients who have unwillingly been given shots. Bucking against widespread hatred of the Sag minority, Helo (Tahmoh Penikett) discovers a long-standing pattern of suspicious Sag deaths. When Dualla catches the disease, her dramatically worsening condition confirms Helo’s worst fears and he must fight to get her into the care of Doc Cottle (Donnelly Rhodes). Meanwhile, Laura Roslin (Mary McDonnell) intends to charge Baltar (James Callis) with high crimes and treason. Zarek (Richard Hatch) warns her that the trial will trigger a “hurricane” of trouble throughout the fleet. While Baltar stews in his cell playing mind games with Number Six (Tricia Helfer), Caprica Six begins to experience similar psychic disturbances as a phantom Baltar whispers his own poisonous advice.

After 49 days without a Cylon sighting, there’s growing optimism that the enemy has lost the scent. Lee (Jamie Bamber) cracks down on any complacency by ordering his pilots back to hardcore training. With more downtime than usual on his hands, Adama (Edward James Olmos) is having vivid memories of his long-dead ex-wife Caroline (Lucinda Jenney) on the anniversary of their marriage. Meanwhile, gossip is spreading about the Admiral’s relationship with Laura Roslin (Mary McDonnell), as the two meet to discuss the trial of Gaius Baltar (James Callis). Elsewhere aboard Galactica, Tyrol (Aaron Douglas) and Cally (Nicki Clyne) are called in to repair a loading dock that had taken heavy fire during the escape from New Caprica. After inadvertently dislodging one of the patches, they find themselves trapped on the wrong side of an airlock as their remaining oxygen leaks away. Lee and Kara (Katee Sackhoff) attempt an unorthodox rescue before space can claim two more victims.

When fuel contamination causes an accident that almost kills President Roslin (Mary McDonnell), an investigation reveals widespread discontent over working conditions on the tylium ship. Gaius Baltar (James Callis) is blamed for the political unrest when it is discovered that the tylium workers have been empowered by Baltar’s new book, a political manifesto that his lawyer has secretly been smuggling out of his cell. Concerned for the safety of the fleet, President Roslin and Admiral Adama (Edward James Olmos) order Chief Tyrol (Aaron Douglas) to crack down on the defiant tylium workers and get fuel production up and running as quickly as possible. But Tyrol, a former union labor leader, strongly identifies with the plight of the tylium workers, and is deeply troubled when he is forced to suppress the workers’ protests. Tyrol’s inner conflict builds until catastrophe strikes and Tyrol openly defies Adama’s orders and leads the workers in an all-out strike, which has more far-reaching consequences than Tyrol ever intended.

As the fleet refuels near the stormy atmosphere of a planet, Kara (Katee Sackhoff) spots a Cylon heavy raider lurking in the dense clouds and chases after it. In a hair-raising dogfight, she feels her viper take multiple hits and the enemy ship escapes. But when Kara returns to Galactica, there’s no evidence of damage to her viper. Badly shaken and afraid she’s losing grip on reality, Kara cuts her next mission short by feigning a hydraulic failure. That’s reason enough for Lee (Jamie Bamber) to send her for a full medical and psych evaluation. It also has everyone wondering if Galactica’s top gun is cracking up. Kara is wondering the same thing. She’s haunted by nightmares about Leoben (Callum Keith Rennie), the Cylon who held her captive on New Caprica. The mandala she painted long ago keeps appearing in the planet’s atmosphere, drawing her toward its mystical vortex. And memories are flooding back about her abusive mother Socrata (Dorothy Lyman), an alcoholic ex-marine. Lee retains faith in his best pilot and keeps her on active duty. But the tightrope Kara walks between present and past, reality and illusion, threatens to snap.

With recent catastrophic events still fresh, the crew of Galactica is numb. Some are losing themselves in the bottle while others, specifically Lee, are unable to concentrate on effectively doing their jobs. Lee is pulled from CAG and assigned to protect Romo Lampkin (Mark Sheppard), an attorney called in to defend Gaius Baltar (James Callis) after his original lawyer is killed in what may have been an act of sabotage. Lampkin’s provocative tactics and the fact that he once worked for Lee’s grandfather – a storied defense attorney with a checkered past on Caprica – begin to revive the grounded pilot from his despair. When they narrowly avoid death in another bomb plot, Lee and Lampkin become closer.
Caprica Six (Tricia Helfer), expected to testify against Baltar, has mixed feelings about her ex-lover, which Lampkin exploits masterfully. Meanwhile, the crew debates whether the bombings are the handiwork of a Cylon infiltrator, Baltar’s many foes or perhaps a radical inspired by his writings. When a third bomb goes off in Lampkin’s quarters, Lee discovers that the lawyer’s briefcase contains answers to more than one riddle.

The trial of Gaius Baltar (James Callis) is underway. Unable to prove his role in the genocide of the Twelve Colonies, prosecutor Didi Cassidy (Chelah Horsdal) focuses on the charge of treasonous collaboration with the enemy on New Caprica that resulted in the loss of 2,600 human souls. With Lee Adama (Jamie Bamber) as his now-willing associate, Romo Lampkin (Mark Sheppard) opens the defense by arguing that the trial is motivated by mob bloodlust and Laura Roslin’s (Mary McDonnell) need for vengeance. But with a succession of powerful witnesses lined up to testify against Baltar – including President Roslin and Colonel Tigh (Michael Hogan) – the defining issue becomes how far will Lee go to question the word of the fleet’s leaders, while risking the increasing enmity of the chief judge: his own father, Admiral Adama (Edward James Olmos). And the Machiavellian Lampkin isn’t shy about exploiting Lee’s antagonistic relationship with the Admiral to gain an edge in the hostile courtroom.
For his part, the Admiral must also deal with the possibility that the Cylons, conspicuous by their absence, have been secretly shadowing the fleet as it jumps from one sector of space to another, gradually closing in on the Ionian Nebula, the next stop on the route to Earth. Meanwhile, as each new jump brings the fleet closer to its destination, a series of strange hallucinations, visions and dreams begin bedeviling several members of the fleet, including President Roslin. By the time Roslin takes the witness stand, the stage is set for the trial against the “most hated man in the universe” to take a surprising twist.

Gaius Baltar (James Callis) believes the case against him is in tatters given the shattered credibility of key prosecution witnesses Colonel Tigh (Michael Hogan) and Laura Roslin (Mary McDonnell). The defense team of Romo Lampkin (Mark Sheppard) and Lee Adama (Jamie Bamber) is less confident after Gaeta (Alessandro Juliani) tells the court that he saw Baltar signing a death list on New Caprica. Lampkin’s surprise motion for a mistrial leads him to call Lee to the stand, in a move that could incriminate Admiral Adama (Edward James Olmos) himself.
Meanwhile, eerie coincidences are being experienced aboard Galactica. The sound of a familiar but untraceable melody haunts several members of the fleet. President Roslin is also unnerved upon learning that her nocturnal dreams of the Kobol Opera House are shared by Sharon (Grace Park) and Caprica Six (Tricia Helfer). Whether a vision, dream or “projection,” Roslin suspects it’s the work of the mysterious Cylons known as the Final Five.
