Lasers flash, the heavens explode and a space fleet undertakes an epic voyage in a blockbuster episode of Battlestar Galactica. Starring in this space spectacular are Richard Hatch, Dirk Benedict and Lorne Greene as Adama. In the opening episode a 12-colony space mission is sabotaged and the home planets are destroyed. The final remnants of human life reunite under the leadership of the giant warship Galactica, the only battlestar spaceship to survive the devastating ambush of the colonial fleet. Forming a cumbersome caravan of 220 space vehicles, the interplanetary refugees join together in search of a new and peaceful frontier where mankind may safely flourish and grow. Their hope and home of the future: the distant and unknown 13th colony, Earth. Greene stars as the battlestar’s commander, Adama, the last member of the shattered colonial government and acknowledged leader of the immigrant fleet. Carrying out the command decisions of their leader are Richard Hatch starring as Capt. Apollo, Adama's son and the leader of the Galactica's fighter squadron; and Dirk Benedict starring as Lt. Starbuck, the battlestar’s ace fighter pilot, con artist and Romeo; Herb Jefferson, Jr. as Lt. Boomer; Maren Jensen as Athena; Noah Hathaway as Boxey; Tony Swartz as Lt. Captain Apollo (Richard Hatch) and Lt. Boomer (Herb Jefferson, Jr.) discover that many of the fleet’s provisions were contaminated during the battle with the Cylons and that there is a possibility of mass starvation. Boarding a passenger liner, they enter into their first confrontation with Sire Uri (Ray Milland) who is living in luxury with a few friends. Seeking fuel and supplies on the distant planet Carillon, Apollo, Boomer and Lt. Starbuck (Dirk Benedict) attempt to lead the fleet through a dangerous mine field. The voyage is made even more hazardous when the three lose visibility in their fighter craft due to the intense radiation.

Adama (Lorne Greene) becomes alarmed when he learns that Sire Uri (Ray Milland) has authorized half the fleet’s population permission to visit the planet Carillon. Concerned about the overly optimistic attitude of most members of the fleet and about the vulnerability to a Cylons attack, Adama is forced to resort to a desperate ruse. Finding their way into the deepest of Carillon's mines, Apollo (Richard Hatch) and Starbuck (Dirk Benedict) learn about the unpleasant fate which many of the recently missing fleet members have suffered. They also discover the strong ties between the inhabitants of Carillon and the Cylons.
Lost Planet of the Gods - Part 1

In order to escape attack from the Cylons, the Galactica heads toward an endless magnetic void in an exciting episode of Battlestar Galactica entitled, "Lost Planet of the Gods”-Part I. While scouting a hidden Cylon outpost on a lonely asteroid, Jolly and Boomer contract a mysterious disease. Unaware that the Cylons have spotted them, they return to their ship and in so doing, lead the Cylons right to the Galactica’s location. Realizing that they must change course to escape, Adama asks the advice of Apollo and Starbuck, who have just returned from a scouting mission. He learns that not far ahead is an endless magnetic sea that scrambles all navigational signals. Meanwhile, most of the Galactica's pilots have been quarantined because of the mysterious virus, and doctors aboard the ship insist that the only way to find a cure is to return to the infected asteroid. A squadron of Viper pilots is then sent out on the dangerous mission, but Apollo is worried for several reasons. First of all, the team consists of female volunteers who are flying for the first time; and one of them is Serina, whom he intends to marry.

The Cylon army continues to pursue the Galactica through the magnetic void, in the conclusion of the two-part episode of Battlestar Galactica, entitled "Lost Planet of the Gods”-Part II. Having returned safely from their scouting mission, the Galactica's new squadron of female warriors returns to the ship to continue the perilous flight through the magnetic void. Apollo, Starbuck, and Serina lead the way in their Vipers, but Starbuck loses radio contact and disappears. Upon returning to the space ship, Serina and Apollo decide to marry right away, since they fear this journey might be their last. Suddenly, a mysterious pulsating star appears which leads the Galactica to a strange planet. Commander Adama organizes an exploratory mission, accompanied by Apollo and his bride. As they land on the planet, they realize they have rediscovered Kobol, the lost planet of the gods, where human life began. Adama soon discovers the tomb of the lord of Kobol, and they explore the inner chambers. To their surprise, Baltar, the leader of the Cylons, is waiting for them, with a plan to lead them into the hands of the Cylons. Meanwhile, Starbuck returns to the Galactica, after having been captured and released by the Cylons. He mobilizes the fighter squadrons, who arrive at the planet Kobol just in time to rescue the humans from a major Cylon attack.

To save the fleet from starvation, Commander Adama finds himself trapped into a compromising courtship with a woman from his past; and a fast-dealing card game leaves Starbuck the unwilling sheriff in a rugged farming community where he is forced to defend the inhabitants against vicious, pig-like creatures called Borays, who have killed all previous sheriffs. When a food crisis strikes in "The Magnificent Warriors" episode, Commander Adama decides to trade machinery for seed with colonists on a nearby planet. Unfortunately, the only exchangeable equipment belongs to the Commander's childhood sweetheart. Determined to rekindle an old flame, the woman trades her machinery for Adama's affections. After launching a trading party to Serenity, a rural human colony terrorized by a band of boar-like brutes, Adama and his men soon fall prey to the crafty farmers. By stealing the Galactica’s barter and conning Starbuck into the short-lived occupation of sheriff, the Serenity citizens deviously enlist the battlestar warriors in their fight against the animal-like marauders.

Starbuck, after crash-landing on the planet of Trillion, is rescued by a band of children who later decide to ransom the colonial warrior to the Cylons in exchange for their imprisoned father. In "The Young Lords," Starbuck is rescued from the armor-clad Cylon warriors of Trillion by the children of an imprisoned jungle fighter. Although the children like Starbuck and want to help him, their determination to free their father from his robot captors leads them to betray Starbuck. The children are later betrayed by the devious Cylon garrison commander, Spectre, and all hopes appear to be lost.

Humanity is threatened with annihilation when Adama engages in a fierce conflict with the hot-blooded commander of another battlestar, who's obsessed with leading both ships in a suicidal attack on the Cylons. Apollo uncovers a blackmail operation and finds his own life in great danger as he races against time to clear Starbuck, who has been accused of murdering a fellow viper pilot. When Apollo and Starbuck intercept a primitive ship floating through space, the young warriors discover that its inhabitants, who are in suspended animation, represent a direct link to Earth. In "Greetings from Earth," the possibility of earthling passengers aboard a captured alien spacecraft spreads excitement throughout the Battlestar Galactica. While the humans, a family of six, lie in a frozen state aboard the captured ship, the battlestar’s scientists struggle to understand the aliens' baffling cryogenic equipment. When one of the captives regains consciousness and it becomes evident that the Galactica atmosphere is incompatible and eventually fatal to the aliens, Commander Adama realizes that he must return them to the original orbit. Having intercepted a spaceship containing a family of six lunar-based earthlings, commander Adama becomes aware that the Galactica atmosphere would eventually be fatal to them, and he decides to return them to their original orbit. Apollo, Starbuck and Cassiopea accompany the space travelers to their destination, the planet of Paradeen. Upon landing, the intergalactic assemblage is met by two comical androids, caretakers for the family's new home. While the Galactica officers help the new inhabitants adjust to their surroundings, the threesome explore the planet and question their new found friends in the hope of getting one step closer to Earth. Having trouble adjusting to the relatively thin atmosphere of Paradeen, Starbuck's life is endangered when he becomes lost exploring an underground city. To make matters worse, the Eastern Alliance -- the gestapo-like enemies of the earthlings -- have tracked the group to Paradeen and plan to kill or capture them.

In "Experiment in Terra," Apollo is captured by a mysterious stranger and enlisted in his angelic mission of mercy to rescue an earth-like planet from annihilation. Accompanied by his celestial guardian, a reluctant and confused Apollo assumes the identity of a soldier from Terra and attempts to warn the mortals of their impending doom. Although Apollo desperately pleads with the leaders of Terra to strive for peace, the young warrior cannot prevent the start of a nuclear holocaust.

Aurora rejects her old suitor's renewed advances and, following the ceremonies aboard the starship Galactica, returns with Kronus to his battlestar, the Celestra. Starbuck and Apollo pursue Aurora as she returns to her home base, where a mutiny by freedom fighters and a power-hungry junior officer threaten the ship's command and endanger their lives.
