FAQ
Frequently asked questions
- Windows 365 Frontline makes it easy and affordable to extend the power of Cloud PCs to more users, including employees and contractors, allowing them to securely access a Windows experience on any device without the hassle of sharing physical PCs. Empower your teams to work from anywhere, helping to boost their productivity and job satisfaction.
- Windows 365 Frontline is for organizations of all sizes where employees and contractors require access to Cloud PCs for limited amounts of time, such as during their scheduled hours.
- For employees and contractors that require dedicated, anytime access to their Cloud PC, Windows 365 Enterprise is the right plan. Windows 365 Frontline is the most effective plan for employees and contractors who need access to a Cloud PC only for a limited time, such as during their shift and not after working hours.
- A Windows 365 Frontline license can be used to provision a Cloud PC in either dedicated or shared mode. In dedicated mode, a single license can be shared with up to three users, providing dedicated and personalized Cloud PCs during their working hours. In shared mode, one license creates one shared Cloud PC, which can be accessed by any number of assigned users, one at a time.
- No. Windows 365 Frontline has the same licensing requirements as Windows 365 Enterprise. Windows 365 Frontline is not governed by the Microsoft 365 F1 or Microsoft F3 license eligibility conditions or Windows use rights for Microsoft 365 F3.
- GPU-enabled Cloud PCs are offered through Windows 365 Frontline in dedicated mode only.
- One Frontline license can be used in either mode:
- Dedicated: Up to 3 Cloud PCs per license, one active at a time
- Shared: One Cloud PC per license, accessed by multiple users non-concurrently
- Windows 365 Cloud Apps enable administrators to provide users access to specific applications rather than a full Cloud PC. A Windows 365 Frontline Cloud PC license is required, and apps run on Frontline Cloud PCs provisioned in shared mode. With Cloud Apps, organizations can provision and manage applications and Cloud PCs through a single pane of management, accelerating their migration from on-premises VDI to the cloud.
- Windows 365 Cloud Apps are a great fit for enterprise organizations with VDI experience currently engaged in or considering a migration to Windows 365, that have a catalog of applications that they’d like to make available to users without having to provide access to a full Cloud PC. These organizations will also benefit from the ability to manage Cloud Apps and their Cloud PCs through a single management plane (Microsoft Intune).

- No. Windows 365 Cloud Apps requires the purchase of a Windows 365 Frontline Shared Cloud PC license.
- There are several factors that will determine how many licenses/Cloud PCs you will need per cloud app provisioning policy, chief among them geographic location, apps that can simultaneously exist on the same OS image, and max concurrent usage of apps. For example, the number of Windows 365 policies will correspond to the number of different geographic regions and/or the number of OS images needed to support a set of applications. The number of licenses assigned to each policy will be determined by the maximum number of users who will need to access the apps concurrently.
