Frequently asked questions
Microsoft 365 refers to subscription plans that include access to Office apps plus other online productivity services. These cloud services include Skype for Business web conferencing and Exchange Online hosted email for business, and additional cloud storage with OneDrive for Business and Skype minutes1 for home. All Microsoft 365 plans are paid for on a subscription basis, monthly or annually.
Many Microsoft 365 plans also include the fully installed desktop versions of the latest Office apps, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, Outlook, Publisher, and Access. (Publisher and Access are available for PCs only.) Users can install apps across multiple computers and devices, including PCs, Macs, iPad®, iPhone®, and Android™ tablets and phones.2 With an active Microsoft 365 subscription that includes the desktop version of Office, you always have the most up-to-date version of the apps.
Microsoft 365 plans are a great choice for some businesses and are designed to work with the latest version of Office, Office 2013, and Office 2011 for Mac. Previous versions of Office, such as Office 2010 and Office 2007, may work with Microsoft 365 with reduced functionality. Get details about which Office versions are currently supported. Note: This compatibility with Office does not include the Exchange Online Kiosk or Office 365 Enterprise K1 plans.
Microsoft Office is the name we use for our familiar productivity software. Office suites are available as a one-time purchase and include apps like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint that can be installed on only one PC or Mac. The apps are not automatically updated, so to get the latest version, you can purchase the product again when the new version is available. The latest versions currently available for one-time purchase are Office 2019 for Windows and Mac. These suites don’t come with any of the cloud-based services included in Microsoft 365.
The Microsoft 365 for business Affiliate Program pays a bounty for each seat of a qualifying new customer sale. The bounty amount ranges based on which product is purchased. For example, if you refer a customer who purchases 10 seats of Microsoft 365 Business Standard, you will earn $150 in commission for that order. If you refer a customer who purchases 10 seats of Exchange Online, you will earn $125 in commission for that order.
