Ran Gal

Ran Gal is a principal researcher at Microsoft’s Applied Sciences Group (ASG), focusing on making large language models (LLM’s) and other machine-learning models run efficiently on edge devices with neural processing units (NPU’s).

Before joining ASG in 2022, Ran worked at Microsoft Research developing novel devices in the mixed-reality space, optical stacks, and hardware and software designs and algorithms.

Ran received his Ph.D. in computer science from Tel Aviv University in 2011, where his research focused on constrained-optimization problems in computer graphics and vision.  He also holds an M.Sc. in computer science and a B.Sc. in mathematics.
