Review title of ChrisBuilt to fail, so you can buy a replacement!
The charger is fine, and charges my surface pro relatively quickly, but I have yet to have a cable last even nine months. I'm about to purchase cable number four, and at the absolutely horrendous cost of $80 (seriously? For some wires, simple circuits, and some plastic? This cost you less than $5 to make.) I think it is perfectly reasonable to expect it to last as long as the computer. A computer that costs over $1000 should include a reliable charging cable, and the surface line doesn't.
Review title of BarbaraCharger - Plan on buying 2-3 each year
My first charger lasted about a year. Since then, all have lasted about 3 - 6 months -- so, after 3 years, I am now ordering my 8th cord. Where it attaches to the Surface, the wire cover disconnects from the plug-in piece. You'll get sparks first, as the wires cross, then, soon after, it will short out. REALLY a POOR DESIGN. If you use your computer on a hard stable surface, it probably works better, but then, it would be a desktop. The surface is close to being the perfect lap device, but still needs some work - the power cord (and the touchpad on the keyboard also fails in time without support from the keyboard's backside) A few more generations and hopefully these issues will be taken care of . . . till then, plan on buying 2 - 3 chargers/year.
Review title of RainBuyer Beware
This charger is only 5 months old, in perfect physical condition. It stopped working. It’s garbage. Microsoft should recall and provide free replacements. Many people have had the same issues. I will never buy a microsoft device again.
Review title of ImaniHighly Disappointed
My charger finally broke after 2 years so I went to get a new one. I used the new one less than 10 times because I have other laptops. In less than 7 weeks it is already broken. It has a short in it. I can’t even return it because it’s after 30 days. Highly disappointed because its $75 and didn’t even last 2 months. And yes I cared for the charger correctly!
Review title of Benjamin4 out of 5 because I had to replace it after 3 years.
I had my original Surface Pro 3 charger for just over three years. I think it honestly would have continued to work if Microsoft didn't have that little power supply cable recall. However, still a great design, reliable, and sturdy product. I have never had any issues with the cords fraying or the block breaking like others sometimes report. I think that it all comes down to how well you take care of your technology. Wrap the cord properly and you won't have any problems.
Review title of SarahTerrible design
When this charger works, it is great. But, mine has died before the 1 year mark. I'm trying to get it replaced because it is still under warranty but I'm getting the run around. So, here I am spending $80.
Review title of RavenNo need to replace original...
I honestly have to question how people are handling their power supplies. I have had mine since new...Surface Pro 3, 2014...still works like a charm. Bought another to use while traveling. If you adhere to the minimum bend radius of the cords, you won't break connectors, and your power supplies won't flake out.
Review title of AMYAbsolute crap
Terrible. No fraying; proper care and I'm on my 4th one after 2 years.
Review title of ChrisSudden Death
I'm inclined to agree with the general consensus here; my Surface is approximately 2 years old (purchased Fall 2016) and my charger just died. No warning, no frayed cables, it just suddenly stopped working. I had purchased a spare cable that I leave at my desk but I would like to have 2 working chargers just in case; $80 is a lot of money for a charger that lasted for less than 2 years.
Review title of VeraPoorly Made Power Supply Cord
This power cord is not well made and will fray at the base of the plug where you insert in the computer. Unfortunately, you have to purchase this product again to charge your computer.
