Microsoft cut corners and ruined a great product.
The bumpers broke after a couple months of use. The design for these is awful. LB and RB are a single piece of molded plastic held together by a 1 millimeter thick arc of plastic. This small bit of plastic is the only thing that brings the button back after being pressed. It could be easily fixed by separating the two buttons and introducing a spring similar to the triggers. The rubberized grip initially is great, but unfortunately it expands with heat. This leads to it coming loose from the controller and eventually peeling away. Most people who are willing to drop $150 on a controller are going to be using it for more than an hour or two at a time, and this will ALWAYS lead to enough heat to ruin the grip. While the side pieces can be replaced with aftermarket grips like those made by Scuff, the rear shell can not. And for $150, you shouldn't need to. Simple design changes would have made this controller perfect. Unfortunatly, Microsoft cut corners on their "premium" product.

Waste of Money. Get the Warranty.
The grips fell off after 5 months and had stick drift. The people giving positive reviews say there on there 2nd or 3rd one. For this much money it should be for life. If I were you get it at best buy with there warrany cause microsoft warrany on this was I believe a month.

What u should do, and things u should know.
I love these for shooters, the reason most are mad they dont buy the 1 year warranty of 20 dollars. So when it breaks down they can get another, just have the renew it for another 20 dollars. They last for about 6-8 months for me and i play 12-16 hrs a day. Best thing i can say to do is buy it and warranty. But buy it from a place u can get a refund, if u dont like it. Ive been using this remote since it came out and players always say i cheat in shooters when they play against me. I dont know how many reports i have because of this remote. But ive never had anything bad happen yet. The remote triggers have switches on bottom to decrease the time it take to fire in games. Lets say it takes u 1 secs to aim and fire a player, if u hit the switches it will .75 or .5 sec to aim and fire. Lots of players believe this is a cheat in games when its really this controller. Problems with controller, rubber degrades quick and thumb stick lose sensitivity, it has a connection to console issue.

Appraisal.from honest 13 months
After over a year of heavy use I still find the elite to be the best game pad style controller I've ever used. Never had problems with anything but a stolen d pad. Flawless in execution, feels solid and well made. Survived many falls, still on my first elite. Will buy again. Actual ownter.

Best Controller Possible on Any Console
Really do not know if you guys know how to use a controller. I have had mine since Christmas 2016 with literally 1 issue. The right trigger got stuck, and found that something had gotten in there. Cleaned it, fine now. These controllers feel (from weight to grips to "clickieness") and look great. They also improved my gaming performance in FPS shooter dramatically with the paddles. Customization in app and physically with the switchable parts makes your gaming experience much more organic. Have not had any issues with drift or with button lag. Maybe I am lucky. But either way, people need to stop with the vitriol and hate. Give it an honest review instead of being upset when you break the controller and blaming it on production. Stop the hate. Feel the love. Get this controller and treat her well.

This is the best controller I've ever used. I have been using it almost daily since I bought it (2+ years) and NEVER had a problem with it. It's very responsive and even though I don't feel the need to change out the different controller options, I'm glad the option is there. I like that I can use the rechargeable battery pack with it (bought separately). The only problem I've had is that my PDP Afterglow headset is starting to crackle and the audio cuts out. Could be the audio jack in the controller. But other than that, this has been a solid purchase! Very happy!

Looking for the best wireless controller? Try Elsewhere
Update: 1 Year on: After about 10 months of continuous daily use, my controller is starting to show signs of "controller fatigue". It "wanders" unless the controls are being used which renders the controller useless for a serious gamer. $150 for 1 years' worth of use. Yep, that's Microsoft for you. Elite Wireless Controller: The Best of The Best. With customizable paddles, buttons & triggers, there isn't a setup you can't make successful. Pricey? Yes. Worth it? Definitely. Serious gamers will love it. Connecting is a cinch and is automatic. Easy to use, convenient and will lift your gaming to another level.

Dont bother.... V2 will be just as bad
The best part is the case. I preordered when first released for myself and my son. First disappointment was our existing Microsoft brand charging stations were not compatible. The one available was so poorly rated it wasn't worth the risk. This a severe design and engineering oversight. After about 18 mos, basic functions started to fail. Now, MS wants to sell us v2 for $30 more which based on description supposedly fixes the mentioned issues. There are far better 3rd party controllers out there with more and better features for less money.
