Employee Morale Events
Each year, the AOC site hosts a variety of Employee Site Morale Events including the Summer Picnic (August of FY18), Spring Morale/ Day of Giving (working with the Employee Volunteer Program and Biggest Little City project in May/June) and Holiday Party (January) and Halloween Trick or Treat Day (October).
AOC Organization Health
This group manages ongoing site training, development and internal awards within Microsoft Operations. Activities such as career week provide employees ample opportunities to take part in learning opportunities.
Women in Technology
The Northern Nevada Women in Technology (WIT) is the first an only forum of its kind in the region and aims to develop female leaders, provide networking and knowledge sharing opportunities through strong collaboration across technology companies in the area. Microsoft hosts a few events on-site each year involving employees from other regional companies.
Women in Operations
This is a site wide group that unites women and men in operations functions to connect, learn and grow by providing hands on workshops, training and executive speakers from within and outside the company.
IT Makeover Campaign
Good Deeds Deserve Good Information Technology
In its seventh year, the IT Makeover campaign is a joint project between Microsoft and IQ Technology Solutions in which each provide $10,000 ($20K all up) worth of technology enhancements and upgrades to deserving, local nonprofit recipients. Recipients are selected from an application pool throughout northern Nevada and based on an application they are required to submit describing their needs, mission, and objectives in addition to how their organization would use the IT Makeover contribution to better serve the northern Nevada region. The final selections are made by a panel made up of Microsoft and IQ employees in addition to local business leaders. Through the matching contributions program, Microsoft allows its employees to direct corporate contributions to thousands of nonprofit organizations working to improve lives in the United States and around the world. Donations that U.S.-based employees make to eligible nonprofits are matched dollar for dollar by the company, up to $15,000 each year.
Every year, Microsoft dedicates the month of October to helping charities with our annual Giving Campaign. Events are held throughout the month. Each event is aligned to a specific nonprofit organization who receives all the revenues raised from that event plus a match of donations from Microsoft. The annual Giving Campaign allows our employees to show their passion for building stronger communities. In addition to matching employee financial donations, Microsoft matches time that our employees volunteer in the community, donating an annually designated amount per hour to the eligible organizations they serve.
It is our hope that this employee benefit will have a great impact in our local community, supporting our employees in their gifts of time as well as money for the organizations they serve.

Annual Microsoft Charity Golf Tournament
Nationally, the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Microsoft have enjoyed a long-standing relationship built on Microsoft’s philosophy of corporate philanthropy. One of the exciting things about this tournament is that it gives us the opportunity to localize and grow that relationship. Add in the generosity of our tournament sponsors and employees who play and the results are obvious – a significant amount of money raised to do good for our community's greatest asset: the children.
With this in mind, Microsoft's Annual Charity Golf Tournament to benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows is held each year in the month of August at the award-winning Robert Trent Jones, Jr. designed Lakes Course at Hawk Golf and Resort. This is truly one of the finest events of its kind in northern Nevada, a high quality tournament with an exclusive field of 128 players.
This tournament is just one piece of Microsoft’s broader initiative to give back and support our local communities. All proceeds from the event will benefit the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) programs at the Boys & Girls Club. STEM programs bring important classroom lessons to life as kids explore new technology through Robotics, build and launch their own rockets in Rocket Build, learn what it takes to build a skyscraper during Engineering Week and discover the world around them through physical science experiments. Microsoft Employee Volunteer Program
Microsoft believes in supporting our employees’ acts of giving and the organizations that inspire them. That’s why each year, a large portion of Microsoft's Corporate Giving budget is allocated for matching employee donations to the causes they care about most. Microsoft's Employee Engagement Programs are designed to honor the diversity of employee giving at Microsoft by supporting a broad spectrum of organizations and institutions. Microsoft will process and match employee gifts to all eligible U.S. based nonprofit organizations and educational institutions with a U.S. Department of Treasury 501(c) (3) public charity status. Donations are matched dollar for dollar, up to the limits of each employee’s annual $15,000 charitable matching benefit across the programs.
- Matching Gift Programs: Microsoft's Matching Gifts program is year-round and when employees donate cash, stock, or Microsoft products to the institution of their choice, Microsoft will match with an equivalent donation.
- Giving Campaign: The Microsoft Employee Giving Campaign is dedicated to raising awareness and generating contributions for nonprofit organizations. During October, we encouraged our employees to partner with Microsoft to promote the causes that inspire them.
- Microsoft Volunter Program: Each U.S. employees' annual matching benefit includes a match for gifts of time as well as money. When employees volunteer at least 4 hours in the community, Microsoft will donate $25 per hour to the eligible organizations they serve.
Biggest Little City Campaign
This employee volunteer program leads annual efforts for the Microsoft Day of Giving event. In addition, Microsoft partners with other inspiring local events such as the annual TedX University of Nevada, Reno event.
About Microsoft DigiGirlz Camp
Since its inception in 2000, Microsoft Corporation developed the DigiGirlz Technology Program series to inspire girls to explore careers in the technology field. Microsoft hopes that by introducing girls to the opportunities and career choices available to them, more college-bound young women will consider computing science and computer engineering majors and pursue degrees that will ultimately narrow the gender gap in the technology industry.
Organized and run by Microsoft employee volunteers- the Microsoft DigiGirlz Programs have proven to be an invaluable tool for getting young girls excited about technology. Educating and inspiring the next generation of women IT leaders by introducing them to the considerable opportunities and career choices available to them.
This event is one of Microsoft’s core efforts to invest in STEM (Science Technology, Engineering and Math) education for women and build a pipeline of future workers ready for the challenges of the global economy.
High School Engagement Program
This project is designed to host local high schools, identified by WCSD’s Signature & CTE Program (generally 5-7 Signature Academies) at our site to provide insight into potential careers in technology and to provide advice to kids about a “typical” day at Microsoft and life/career lessons, in addition to lining up hands-on tech, team building and career content and demos.
University of Nevada, Reno College of Business (Corporate Partnership)
The Corporate Partners Program is a partnership that brings long-term benefits and a competitive edge to the College of Business (COB), Microsoft, and the state and region. As a Corporate Partner, Microsoft joins a select group of local companies impacting business education, innovative scholarships, and workforce development in our region.
Microsoft enjoys participating in on-campus events, including networking and recruitment opportunities as well as sponsoring the annual “Business Week BBQ” and hosting several “Technology Showcase” events on campus to share our story around our products and the experiences they create. Since 2007, the partnership has provided a strong pool of talent for our Internship Program.
