A work account allows you to manage your business purchases separately from your personal items and lets you access exclusive business pricing at the Microsoft Store. It’s the account your organization provides for accessing business services. The accounts aren’t interchangeable: you can’t use a personal Microsoft account to access the business store or Microsoft 365 Admin Center.

No. Anyone can shop at the Microsoft Store, but you can get exclusive business discounts when you sign in with your work account or create a Microsoft work account using your business email address.

If your business email is already connected to a Microsoft work account (Microsoft Entra ID), you can sign in directly using your .onmicrosoft.com work account alias.
If you do not have a onmicrosoft.com alias we’ll help you create a Microsoft work account using your business email address. -

No. Microsoft 365 isn’t required to use your work account. All you need is a Microsoft work account (Entra ID) to:
Manage orders and user licenses in one place.
Access business pricing and shop the Microsoft Store with your work account.

When you create a Microsoft work account, Microsoft:
Sets up your business identity.
Creates a secure sign-in for your organization.
Unlocks access to business purchasing features, including shopping at the Microsoft Store with your work account.
As part of setup, Microsoft creates a default domain (e.g. you@yourbusiness.onmicrosoft.com), which you’ll use to sign in to your new work account.
