Power Apps introduces pay-as-you-go pricing; adds AI Builder service credits to subscription plans

November 2, 2021

Starting today, pay-as-you-go pricing is available for Power Apps. Customers will now have the option to purchase the Power Apps per app plan with an Azure subscription, in addition to the existing Power Apps per user and per app subscription plans already available across Microsoft’s commerce channels.

The Power Apps per app pay-as-you-go plan introduces the flexibility for customers to pay for Power Apps based on usage—covering authenticated users of internal apps and portals. Priced at $10 per active user/month, charges are incurred against a Microsoft Azure subscription based on the number of unique apps or portals a user runs each month.

For example, some organizations may benefit from the flexibility pay-as-you-go provides to establish usage patterns for a new app or solution before transitioning to subscription licenses. Others with scenarios spanning a potentially large, fluctuating user base may choose the pay-as-you-go option for the agility to license only the portion of users who ran an app during the monthly period. And for organizations with teams of professional developers, the ability to use an Azure subscription as a payment instrument for Power Apps may help reduce procurement processes, while maintaining consistency with other services the team is consuming from Microsoft.

The Power Apps per app pay-as-you-go plan includes access to Microsoft Dataverse capacity, premium connectors and other components necessary to run a premium application on the platform. These capabilities and entitlements are applied to each environment where pay-as-you-go billing is enabled, and are not granted for each monthly active user. For scenarios requiring additional Dataverse capacity beyond the monthly entitlement or Power Platform request limits, overage in the environment will also be billed to the Azure subscription.

Additionally, customers with Power Apps subscription plans will be able to get started infusing AI in their apps without an additional purchase. Extending the pricing and licensing updates that were recently introduced, AI Builder service credits are being added to help customers targeting AI scenarios like key phrase extraction, language detection, sentiment analysis, text recognition (OCR) and others in their apps. Beginning in December 2021, the Power Apps per user and per app plans will receive 500 and 250 service credits per month respectively at no additional cost. Additional AI Builder service credits may be purchased for $500 per unit/month. Some limits and exclusions may apply.
