Windows Embedded 8 Standard is the trusted platform for building differentiated devices that are part of an Intelligent System. It is a componentized version of Windows 8 with additional technologies that extend the power of Windows to specialized devices.
  • Supported Operating Systems

    Embedded 8 Standard, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2012

      Windows Vista® (with SP1 or SP2), Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows Server® 2008 R2 operating systems.

      Other system requirements are:
    • PC with a 32-bit or 64-bit processor, 1 GHz or faster
    • Minimum of 1 GB of system memory (32 bit), 2 GB of system memory (64 bit)
    • 8 GB of available hard-disk space
    • DVD-ROM drive
    • Microsoft® .NET Framework 2.0 or higher
    • Microsoft Core XML Services (MSXML) 6.0 or higher
    • A network connection is highly desirable for deploying an embedded OS image

  • Windows Embedded 8 Standard consists of 3 DVD images (ISO's). Download the .exe and .rar files for each DVD image into its own folder and run the .exe file in that folder to reconstitute the .ISO file. It is recommended that users with older browsers (Internet Explorer 5, 6 and 7) use the download manager that is available here to optimize the download experience. Once the .ISO file is created you can then burn the ISO onto a blank DVD by software that supports DVD5 and DVD9 formats or mount the ISO as a virtual disk. The toolkit DVD is used to install the Image Configuration Editor (ICE) and associated catalogs onto a development system. The 32-bit and 64-bit IBW DVDs are bootable WinPE DVDs that contain the Image Builder Wizard (IBW) and the corresponding 32-bit or 64-bit catalog. Typically these DVDs are used to boot into Windows PE on the target device and apply the runtime image created with ICE or to prototype image creation using the wizard and various templates available in IBW. Please read the Windows Embedded 8 Standard documentation for more information on using ICE and IBW to create and deploy runtime images to your devices.
  • Please note that the toolkit will be in evaluation mode until a valid product key is entered. ICE will request a product key when first launched and each subsequent launch for up to 30 days, upon which time you will be required to enter a valid product key. Runtime images created using the Windows Embedded 8 Standard toolkit require a product key to be inserted in the answer file in order for them to boot. Register for product keys at www.windowsembedded.com/we8standard.

Some features or utilities may require additional product keys or licenses and may not be functional in the evaluation edition.
