- Windows 10 support ended on October 14, 2025. Windows 11 Education is the best Windows yet and was reimagined to enable student success and institutional innovation while simplifying and securing the IT landscape alongside AI features to boost productivity. Your path to Windows 11:
Upgrade eligible devices: Many existing devices are compatible with Windows 11 and can make the transition with a software update. Microsoft offers a free tool called PC Health Check that tells you if your device meets the requirements for Windows 11.
New Windows 11 devices: If your current device does not meet the specifications required for Windows 11, we recommend exploring options to purchase new Windows devices that are designed to support the latest features and security updates. This ensures your school continues to benefit from improved performance and ongoing support. Schools can also explore Shape the Future, a Microsoft discount program that helps K–12 institutions access affordable Windows 11 PCs and promote digital equity. Email the team to learn more.
Extended Security Updates: As your school transitions to Windows 11, you have the option to purchase Extended Security Updates (ESUs) for devices that must temporarily remain on Windows 10. ESUs provide only important security updates and do not include new features or enhancements, helping to keep your devices protected while you complete your migration plan. - Windows 11 Education provides a simple, accessible environment on secure, easy-to-manage devices. It supports both online and offline learning, making learning digitally secure and productive. Features like immersive reader and focus sessions help students stay engaged and progress toward their learning outcomes.
- We encourage the use of trade-in and recycling programs available through our retail and OEM partners, as well as on Microsoft.com. To help schools stretch their budgets, eligible devices can be securely recycled with cashback to offset new purchases through select programs. For devices that don’t qualify for trade-in, Microsoft’s end-of-life management programs support sustainability goals through responsible recycling.
