Description

The military dictatorship, which held power in El Salvador, instituted a way of governing the country that became unsustaible. Electoral frauds were evident, and despite all this, the military continued to perpetuate themselves in power, which according to their point of view, was for the good of the nation. The gap between the social classes began to widen, aggravating differences, while inequality grew disproportionally. Due to the lack of oopportunity to improve the quality of live Salvadorans via a political path, guerilla organizations as well as an armed conflict emerged. The church takes on a central role with the figure of Monseigneur Romero, who spoke in favor of the majority of population with a political tint. This cost him his life when the shot from a coward´s bullet reached his heart as he gave mass. The war in El Salvador is not an isolated event, all this debacle surges in the middle of a conflict between the two great powers of the world: The Cold War.
