Small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) should be looking to take advantage of social networking websites, it has been claimed.
Writing for Guardian Professional, Vodafone UK's enterprise commercial marketing director Peter Boucher said social media can be a valuable marketing tool, while also helping to achieve new efficiencies for SMBs.
He suggested that websites such as Facebook and Twitter can help businesses learn what consumers think about them, which offers valuable strategic insight.
"Used as part of your overall service mix, social media has great potential to cut costs within your customer service operation: for example, by giving people an alternative to calling," Mr Boucher stated.
"Small businesses could consider taking this a step further, using social media to build an in-depth customer service capability that will help you work around any potential limited capacity to take calls."
SMBs have access to a range of online marketing solutions which can help them reach out to consumers and increase their customer base on a budget.
These include Office 2013, SharePoint 2013 and advertising on Yahoo Bing .
