There is a tremendous opportunity to stay competitive for businesses who evolve to capitalize on all that the cloud has to offer. The new commerce experience makes it easier to transact with Microsoft, as well as accelerate the growth of your business and your ability to drive cloud adoption for your customers. The Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) program is the primary foundation of the new commerce experience for partners, and we’re excited to bring seat-based offers to the new commerce experience for CSP. A technical preview for new commerce transactions of seat-based offers in CSP is scheduled for October 2021, and it’s a big step forward in our evolution toward a unified new commerce experience.
Transform the way your customers transact
The new commerce experience is part of a transformational journey that’s changing the way customers transact with Microsoft. It’s a multi-phase, long-term investment in the CSP program aimed at helping our partners accelerate business growth, simplify licensing, and address how their customers prefer to purchase. Since adding the new commerce experience for Microsoft Azure in 2019, we’ve continued to make more products available. In October we’ll also be including seat-based offers in CSP for Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365, Windows 365, and Power Platform.
Like the new commerce experience for Azure in CSP, the new commerce experience for seat-based offers in CSP delivers a consistent, simplified, and flexible purchase experience for customers and partners. As a Microsoft partner, you have the opportunity to build and deliver more managed services, expand your customer base, and help guide your customers through their transformational journey to the cloud.

The general-availability release of commercial seat-based offers in CSP new commerce is set for January 10th, 2022. To incentivize partners for the transition of their customers from the existing commerce platform to the new commerce experience, two introductory promotional discounts will be available on commercial seat-based offers in new commerce for direct bill partners and indirect providers transacting in CSP. Both annual and monthly term promos start on January 10, 2022, at 9 a.m. PST/5 p.m. UTC. The annual term promotion ends March 31, 2022, and monthly term promotion ends June 30, 2022. Further information can be found in the monthly Global Promo Readiness guide available on the Partner Network website. We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to get involved early and start transitioning your customers to the new commerce experience.
New features and future plans
Streamlining product subscriptions
Microsoft 365, Dynamics 365, Windows 365, and Power Platform are solutions that customers already use to address a wide range of business scenarios. Starting in January, you’ll be able to sell these products in the new commerce experience in CSP, providing your customers with a streamlined purchasing experience. New features include tools that simplify subscription management and the transition of existing subscriptions to the new commerce experience.
Alignment with other proven licensing programs
Along with improving the purchasing experience, the new commerce experience in CSP lays the foundation for future capabilities by incorporating proven offer types from legacy Microsoft licensing programs. Additionally, the new commerce experience minimizes the risk to partners whose customers are less likely to commit to a long-term subscription or will benefit from a flexible monthly agreement. The new commerce experience enables you to more accurately forecast revenue and mitigate the impacts of cancelation of long-term subscriptions.
The journey starts today
Transitioning to the new commerce experience enables you to create more customer-centric solutions and positions both you and your customers for future growth. New subscription orders, offers, and renewals for seat-based offers in the CSP program will be exclusive to the new commerce experience beginning in March 2022, so the time is now to start planning ahead!
