Intel’s projections on dual core
During his keynote, Otellini projected that the ramp up for dual core chips will overtake single core shipments in Q3 2006 – in one year. Adding to it, Otellini said that Intel will ship 60 million dual core procs by the end of 2006. If you’re Oracle, that means charging for 80 million dual cores 😉
Otellini also announced new server chip, called Woodcrest. He demo’d a Woodcrest DP chip running WinServer 2003 x64 and Otellini said it would deliver 3x improvement based on TPC-C. Woodcrest is due 2H’06 and will be follow on from Dempsey processor.
