Backstory

The version 2 update adds Office 365 integration through the introduction of a new Documents page. Now, when you are signed into your Office 365 account, you will be able to easily access, modify and share your documents from the cloud. “You no longer need to email important documents to yourself to be accessible on the go,” says Daniel Chu, a lead in the Office Experience Organization in Beijing. “We have also added several performance tweaks to make Arrow consume even less battery power, and be more responsive and faster than ever.” Chu says the team has learned a lot about the app’s users in the months since its release. “Performance and smoothness matters,” he says. “Using Arrow makes them feel like they’re upgrading their phone – without having to buy a new one. Second, providing users with open and direct access to us (the developers) is a key part of our growth story. Every engineer, designer and program manager on the team is tasked to monitor user feedback and answer them within 24 hours. Everyone is listening directly to our users instead of through a customer feedback report. Through this kind of close interactions with our users, we continue to learn how best to solve their problems and build a product they love.” They’ve also stayed focused. “It is critical to have a ‘True North’ on the product,” Chu says. “From the beginning, we have not changed from our mission of being the launcher that simplifies your life for you, and makes you more productive on the go. And this is a major factor why we continue to connect with our user base.” Originally, the team introduced Next Lock Screen over a year ago, which was a new type of lock screen that helps you be more productive by putting what’s next right on your lock screen. Since then, you’ve reached out in the tens of thousands, sharing what you liked, how it improved your phone, as well as how we can make it better. One of the most common requests we heard from you was to go even further – to extend beyond the lock screen, and bring the same great ideas and more to an Android launcher. We listened. A year from the release of Next Lock Screen, we are excited to kick off the next phase of this journey: Arrow, a launcher for Android, made just for you.

We built Arrow to enable the key capabilities of a launcher in a more streamlined package. To start, we’ve focused on three key goals:

  1. Helping you keep in touch with the people who matter to you
  2. Giving you easy access to the apps you use most
  3. Making it simple to get back to whatever you were doing

When you start using Arrow, you’ll quickly see that it doesn’t feel the same as other launchers. Arrow works behind-the-scenes to learn from you; the technology does the heavy lifting, so you can spend less time managing your phone, and more time enjoying it. This is just the beginning of Arrow’s journey – we are far from done. We plan to add a number of new features in the coming weeks and we’re really excited to hear your feedback and ideas.

Looking forward to the road ahead,

The Creators of Arrow and Next Lock Screen (Beijing, China and Bellevue, WA)
