Description
Winner of the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, this powerful film follows the secret smuggling of 9,300 Jewish children out of Nazi-occupied Germany in the late 1930s. Arranged by British sympathizers, the "Kindertransport" provided Jewish parents with a means of protecting their children from the anti-Semitic terror raging through Germany, by sending them "into the arms of strangers" -- foster families in Great Britain. Some would be moved from foster home to foster home, some would wind up in slave camps, and some would be sent back to Germany and into the death camps. Most would never see their families again. Recent interviews with survivors are combined with historical footage, newsreels and photographs to reveal their moving personal stories. Narrated by Academy Award and Golden Globe-winner and Emmy-nominee Dame Judy Dench ("Notes on a Scandal," "Casino Royale").
