Summary

Trickbot is a modular trojan that first appeared in 2016. Trickbot can perform a number of actions on the infected device, including:

  • Downloading and executing additional malware on the infected device
  • Spreading throughout the network
  • Installing persistent backdoors on the infected device/network

Trickbot usually spreads through phishing campaigns that distribute emails with malicious attachments or links to malicious files. It constantly evolves and demonstrates increasingly sophisticated behavior.

Microsoft Defender Antivirus automatically removes threats as they are detected. However, many infections can leave remnant files and system changes. Updating your antimalware definitions and running a full scan might help address these remnant artifacts.
