New Domain-Based Namespaces On The Way!
Things have been a little quiet around here since we released Windows Server 2008 Beta 3 (over 250,000 downloads so far and counting!), so I wanted to take this chance to let you know about something that you’ll soon be able to take advantage of in Windows Server 2008.
Windows Server 2008 component poster available
As Andrew pointed out, TechNet magazine just released an updated Windows Server 2008 component poster. Part of the poster is the new hypervisor layer codename Viridian. Here’s a screen scrape of that component. Enjoy.
Service pack for Virtual Server 2005 R2 available
Today we released the final version of Virtual Server 2005 R2 service pack 1. Available at no charge, this service pack adds support for hardware-assisted virtualization and improved backup services and compatibility. A new feature to the service pack is Volume Shadow Services, which provides improved support for backup and disaster recovery.

Viridian and Virtual Server Timing Updates
As the person who oversees the development plans, teams and strategy for Microsoft’s virtualization software on desktops and servers, I want to update everyone on the timing of our server virtualization offerings.
Longhorn and Vista sightings in Austin
I spent Monday and Tuesday in Austin, TX for meetings with counterparts at Dell and AMD. Doing these meeting back-to-back is much easier now than last year due to these two companies working together. The drive on IH 35 between the two headquarters is only 35 minutes – on a good day I’m told.
