Microsoft User State Virtualization
With Microsoft User State Virtualization (USV), user data and settings are transferred to a centralized data center, eliminating the constraints of local storage and giving users the ability to access their data and settings from any PC. With USV, users are given flexibility to work everywhere and business continuity is improved.
Microsoft USV has three components:
- Folder Redirection centralizes user folders where user or application data can be stored to a server in the data center, making these folders accessible to the user from any other PC that they log in from.
- Offline Files takes files and folders located on a server and makes them accessible to users on their PC even when they are disconnected.
- Roaming User Profiles enable user profiles to be stored in a folder, shared from a network server, and then downloaded to the user’s computer whenever the user logs on using their domain credentials.
USV, when used with DirectAccess, enables users to synch data and settings even when they are outside the corporate network. Users are ensured unforeseen business disruptions will not decrease their productivity because the risk of lost data is reduced, since data is replicated centrally and recovered immediately if a device is dysfunctional or lost. Microsoft USV enables IT teams to keep PCs running seamlessly in the midst of an increasingly mobile and changing environment.
