CIOs share insight on best practices and challenges in today’s enterprise environment

This week, Microsoft launched a new tool for information on mission critical applications called Today’s Enterprise. Designed to help CIOs and IT decision makers share ideas and best practices and analyze their platform options, the site features case studies, product information and CIO commentary on the various needs and issues IT decision makers are facing today.

Tony Scott, CIO of Microsoft Corp. participated as the first of these commentary guests, discussing in an on-demand video the daily issues he faces as CIO for a company doing business in virtually every country in the world.

Additionally, today the CIO of NEC Digital Displays, Michael Cocoran, shared his thoughts on partnering with Microsoft as NEC set out to revolutionize the digital display industry. NEC recognized the challenges the medium faced to compete with other media for ad revenue but also recognized the potential for digital displays to deliver advertising gold with access to consumers at the point of purchase.

A more sophisticated infrastructure was needed, however, one that was network agnostic, allowing advertisers to identify screens that reach a target demographic, negotiate placement, manage the final product including proof of play and proof of performance, and do it all through a secure, reliable, available network.

Cocoran and team came together with Microsoft to create VUKUNET, which creates networks of digital displays and allows for central monitoring and managing enabling a fully integrated media campaign. VUKUNET will help the digital signage medium better compete with other media by increasing the uptime of screens, effectiveness of ad campaigns and revenues of the networks hosting the ads.
