Threat behavior
Win32/Lumebag is a worm that spreads via Peer-to-Peer file sharing networks, and downloads and executes arbitrary files, including additional malicious executables. It is a component of the greater multi-component Win32/Bagle family.
Installation
When executed, Win32/Lumebag copies itself to %appdata%\m\flec006.exe and modifies the registry to ensure that this file is executed at each Windows start:
Adds value: "mule_st_key"
With data: "%app data%\m\flec006.exe"
To subkey: HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Spreads Via...
Peer-to-Peer File Sharing
Win32/Lumebag downloads a list of filenames to use when attempting to spread via P2P file sharing from one or more of the following domains:
80.74.135.131
erlebnispaedagogik-chemnitz.de
innovainteriorismo.com
insidedg.com.ar
insumy.iatp.org.ua
inter-ex.cz
intercambio4.com
ip-kamery.com
irannano.org
inforserver.com
infoserwis2.home.pl
ingenieria-inversa.cl
The worm creates ZIP archives containing copies of itself in the %app data%\m directory using filenames provided by the remote sites. The ZIP files are designed to masquerade as cracks for popular programs.
The worm connects to the eDonkey peer-to-peer network and hosts these ZIP archives in order to encourage unsuspecting users to download copies of the worm.
Payload
Downloads and Executes Arbitrary Files
Win32/Lumebag may also download additional executable components from the afore-mentioned list of domains. Downloaded components are saved to the %app data%\m directory.
