Summary
Windows Defender detects and removes this threat.
This boot sector virus infects the master boot record on hard disks and DOS boot sector on floppy disks. This virus and its many variants were very common in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
In May 2014, it was also reported to be used in proof-of-concept attacks that inject malicious code from this virus into other files to trigger a detection from antimalware products.
The following free Microsoft software detects and removes this threat:
- Microsoft Defender Antivirus for Windows 10 and Windows 8.1, or Microsoft Security Essentials for Windows 7 and Windows Vista
- Microsoft Safety Scanner
