소개

I co-lead People-Centric AI, a multi-disciplinary research area at Microsoft Research Cambridge. We develop knowledge, model capabilities, and experiences, which enable human agency and skill, support creativity and collaboration, and ensure equitable representation and participation. A key aim is to produce principles and insights to shape human-AI interaction, especially as models are given greater flexibility and control over the content and interfaces they generate, and as the practices and expectations of people using these systems evolve. For us, success means delivering AI-enabled experiences that empower all people while preserving and enhancing human capability and connection.

We especially focus on generative UX and activity-centric computing. My research is typically framed in knowledge work scenarios, but I have also researched front-line and gigwork, as well as use of technology in the home and by a community.

Whilst at Microsoft I have additionally studied digital possessions (you can find out more by watching my TEDx(opens in new tab) talk), web use, technology for older adults, wearable cameras, messaging devices, and situated displays. I have a PhD in Psychology from the University of York and an MSc in Human-Centred Computing Systems from the University of Sussex. I was a Lecturer at UCL before joining Microsoft in 2007. I am a BCS Fellow.
