Evaluate Microsoft business cloud services
Are you weighing an organizational move to the cloud and evaluating Microsoft cloud services?
We know that for you to invest in Microsoft business cloud services, we must win and keep your trust. To that end, we have built the Microsoft cloud infrastructure and services on these four fundamental commitments:
- We will help keep your data secure. We build on our decades-long experience running some of the largest online services in the world to implement security-aware software development and operational management, as well as strong threat mitigation practices.
- We will keep your data private and under your control. We will handle it only in a way that is consistent with your expectations. You will know where your customer data is located, who can access it, and on what terms.
- We will manage data according to the law. Our compliance with regulatory requirements is amply documented by independent auditors.
- We will be transparent on many levels—from our clearly stated and readily available policies and procedures and how we handle legal demands for customer data to the security of our code.
Read on for a brief introduction to each of our cloud services, with links to detailed information about each service as well as how it meets our four commitments.
Azure safeguards customer data in the cloud
Azure is a growing collection of integrated cloud services—analytics, computing, database, mobile, networking, storage, and web—to help you get more done, extend your existing IT, protect your data, and run your apps anywhere.
Azure provides businesses with the data security and privacy, control, and transparency they require. Protecting confidential data from compromise is critical, and companies in many industries are bound by extensive regulations regarding the use, transmission, and storage of customer data. So, we build security and privacy into the development and operations of Azure, and we’ve participated in international compliance programs with independent verification of Azure controls.
Microsoft Dynamics 365
Evolve your business on your terms
Dynamics 365 is the next generation of intelligent business applications, uniting our customer relationship management (CRM) and enterprise resource planning (ERP) cloud services into a single service, with new purpose-built apps to help you manage specific business functions.
Dynamics 365 features robust security and access controls for applications and data that are built into the cloud services, including the physical datacenter, network connectivity, service hosting platform, and user and administrator access.
Windows Server 2016
New layers of security
Windows Server 2016 is the cloud-ready operating system that delivers new layers of security and Azure-inspired innovation for the applications and infrastructure that power your business.
We build security and privacy into the Windows Server platform to help defend server applications and infrastructures against the top methods attackers use to compromise data and interrupt business. New protections at the identity, operating system, and virtualization layers work to thwart standard attacker toolkits and isolate vulnerable targets.
Microsoft Power BI
Business intelligence that brings your data to life
Power BI is a cloud-based analytics service that your business can use to analyze data, visualize it, and then share the insights with whomever you want. With one click, you get rich visuals to help you explore your data, with intuitive tools that make finding answers easy.
The Power BI service is built on the Microsoft Azure cloud computing platform, and uses its robust set of security technologies. Power BI follows the Microsoft approach to privacy and data protection, which is grounded in our commitment to organizations’ ownership of and control over the collection, use, and distribution of their customer data.
Visual Studio Team Services
Cloud-based tools for software development teams
Team Services provides a set of cloud-powered collaboration tools that work with your existing integrated developer environment (IDE) or editor, so your team can effectively plan, develop, and manage software projects of any size, in any software programming language.
Team Services uses the Platform as a Service infrastructure and many of the secure and compliant services of Microsoft Azure, including Azure SQL databases, to deliver a reliable, globally available service for your projects. Team Services is also transparent about how we manage your data, where Team Services data is located, who can access it, and under what terms.
Microsoft Office 365 Business
Office when and where you need it
Office 365 integrates the familiar Microsoft Office desktop suite with cloud-based versions of Microsoft’s next-generation communications and collaborative services. This enables users to create, edit, and share with anyone in real time from a PC, Mac, or mobile device.
Safeguarding the security and privacy of your data is one of our foremost objectives. Office 365 uses the defense-in-depth approach to provide industry-leading physical and logical security of our datacenters and customer data. We also give you extensive privacy controls and visibility into where your data resides and who has access to it, as well as its availability and any changes to the service.

Intune delivers mobile device, mobile application, and PC management capabilities from the cloud. Using Intune, organizations can give their employees access to corporate applications, data, and resources from virtually anywhere on almost any device.
Intune provides physical security for our datacenters. Our architecture security encompasses client installation and enrollment of Intune on PCs and mobile devices; account, administrator, and end-user portals; and identity and authentication controls.

Furthermore, we collect and use customer data only to provide support services, and we maintain an active training program to reinforce our policies on the access, use, and safeguarding of customer data.
Microsoft National Clouds
Protected national clouds
In addition to our global network of datacenters, Microsoft cloud services are available in three separate national clouds. These cloud versions are physical and logical network-isolated instances of Microsoft enterprise cloud services, confined within the geographic borders of specific countries and operated by local personnel. Compliance certifications and attestations for national clouds may be audited and maintained separately from global public cloud services.
Currently, national clouds include Microsoft Cloud for US Government, Microsoft Cloud Germany, and Microsoft Azure and Office 365 operated by 21Vianet in China. Microsoft makes Azure, Dynamics 365, and Office 365 available in national clouds.
