Rooted in Washington:
investing in our state’s future

Microsoft works with educators, policymakers, community leaders, and our employees to promote the growth of healthy communities across Washington state. That spirit of collaboration inspires our optimism and investments in our home state.

Our commitment and approach

At Microsoft, our mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. Here in Washington, we’re championing a future‑ready state where innovation drives economic opportunity, and resilient communities benefit from the AI economy.

Strengthening our home state

Advancing affordable housing solutions

Our state’s best future depends on whether the people who make Washington work— teachers, nurses, first responders, and families at all income levels can comfortably afford to live here. Since 2019, we’ve invested $750 million in affordable housing. Microsoft’s efforts are contributing to the creation and preservation of more than 16,500 units.

Helping schools and students benefit from AI

We believe Washington state can lead the nation in AI readiness. Through Microsoft Elevate Washington, we partner with educators, districts, and community colleges to enable AI training and cost‑effective educator-led initiatives to prepare students for the AI economy.

Strengthening our communities

Empowering communities across Washington

Giving back is part of who we are. In 2024, Microsoft and its employees contributed over $100 million in cash to Washington-based nonprofits; our employees volunteered over 400,000 hours; and we contributed over $50 million in technology to nonprofits in our home state. Across the decades, our lifetime cash contributions in Washington state exceed $1.75 billion.

Promoting employee engagement

Microsoft encourages our employees to give their time, money, and skills to the issues they are passionate about―in their own backyard and beyond.

Fostering economic opportunity

Diffusion of artificial intelligence across our broader region is vital to our economic future. Microsoft supports responsible AI adoption to unlock opportunities and prepare Washingtonians for the jobs of tomorrow.
